The specific purpose of the “Mole” motor-cultivator is to perform a wide range of agricultural work on soil cultivation. In summer cottages and household plots, in vegetable gardens and farmsteads. The owners of these small “lands” know from experience that digging them up by hand only requires a significant investment of time and physical effort. The Mole walk-behind tractor can also be used for pumping water from open reservoirs and containers. To do this, a pumping unit is installed on its frame, connected by a V-belt drive to the engine. Description of the design of the Mole walk-behind tractor

The frame, consisting of two half-frames, is bolted to the gearbox. Tubular cultivator control handles and a bracket for installing additional attachments are located at the rear of the walk-behind tractor. The handles contain controls for engine speed and clutch (on the Krot-2 modification, reverse gear is also engaged).

The output shafts of the Krot gearbox are equipped with soil cutters with a diameter of 320 mm for plowing the soil, weeding or wheels (for working with a hiller (or plow, as well as for operating a cultivator with a trolley). An internal combustion engine is attached to the frame, connected by a V-belt transmission to the input shaft of the gearbox.

The fuel tank is located on top. Lifting wheels are used to roll the cultivator, but during operation they must be raised or removed.

The Mole walk-behind tractor works according to this principle. The rotating motion is transmitted through the V-belt to the gearbox, and then to the two output shafts. After engaging the clutch, the belt is tensioned, driving the gearbox shaft. During idle operation, the clutch is disengaged.

The gear shaft, equipped with cutters - rotors with special knives, rotates and cuts off layers of soil, simultaneously crushing and mixing it. Thus, with progressive movements, the “Mole” makes its way forward.


Directly when purchasing a walk-behind tractor, the set includes four cutters that are installed on different sides of the gearbox shaft. There is also the possibility of using six cutters at once. The depth of loosening will depend on the length of the attached coulter.

To ensure that the walk-behind tractor does not get stuck in place, “burrowing”, or that it, on the contrary, does not “run along the surface” of the earth, rising to the top, the operator needs to adjust the depth of cultivation throughout the work. Thus, using the handles of the “Mole” it is necessary to periodically press it into the soil, or, conversely, lift it.

The classic Krot engine is a single-cylinder, two-stroke carburetor, with forced air cooling.

The working volume of this engine is 60 cubic centimeters. Power – 2.6 horsepower, or 1.91 kW (at 5500-6500 rpm). Starting the engine is manual, carried out with a matusk rope, the starter is non-removable.


The latest models of the Krot-2 motor-cultivator are equipped with more powerful 4-stroke engines made in China. The single-cylinder GreenField GX series engine has an overhead valve arrangement and a piston with a cast iron liner. The working volume of such an engine is 198 cubic centimeters.

The carburetor on the MK-1 Mole walk-behind tractor is the same as on the Sh-50 or Sh-52 engines of the popular Soviet mopeds “Riga”, “Verkhovyna” or “Karpaty”: brand “K-60V”. By the way, a large number of other parts from Soviet mopeds were used in the design of the Krot engine. The Krot-2 walk-behind tractors have not only an engine, but also a different carburetor - the K41K brand.

The engine air cleaner is dry, with a replaceable filter element. The older generation remembers that in the USSR a collapsible oil filter was produced for Zhiguli cars, on which the same filter element was installed as on the air filter.


The Krot engine runs on low-octane gasoline A-76 (or A-80 in post-Soviet times), mixed with M-8B1 motor oil (Avtol), in a ratio of 20 to one. The volume of the walk-behind tractor's fuel tank is 1.8 liters.

Ignition is an electronic contactless magneto “MB-1”, as on the Druzhba and Ural chainsaws common in the USSR. Spark plug "A-17B". However, even with the “A-11” spark plug, the cultivator engine operates stably, carbon deposits do not form on the spark plug, and glow ignition is not observed. The average fuel consumption (for the Krot-2 walk-behind tractor) is 0.96 l/kW per hour.

Transmission

The engine of the Mole walk-behind tractor is made in a single block with a single-stage gear reducer (motor transmission). The Krot-2 motor cultivators also have reverse gear. Lubrication of the motor gearbox is “M-8B1” engine oil (It is also acceptable to use “TAD-17” transmission oil (SAE 85W90).

There is a pulley on the output shaft of the motor gearbox. Through a V-belt drive, torque is transmitted to the pulley of the main gearbox.

The walk-behind tractor's clutch is always disengaged and is engaged with a handle, like on a motorcycle or moped. When the clutch is engaged, the V-belt is tensioned, its slipping along the pulley is eliminated, and torque is transmitted. The main gearbox is two-stage (chain and a pair of gears). Lubricant - transmission oil "TAD-17" (SAE 85W90).

Contrary to popular belief, the MK-1 Mole walk-behind tractor does not plow the land, but cultivates it (which is reflected in its name: motor-cultivator). That is, it loosens and levels its top layer.

Soil cutters are mounted on the output shafts of the gearbox; the transport wheels are raised, a coulter is attached to the bracket, acting as a brake and regulating the depth of processing. The cutters are the working body and, at the same time, the mover of the Krot motor cultivator.

The walk-behind tractor is equipped with a set of cutters (two internal and two external – respectively: “right” and “left”). When developing complex (virgin and fallow) lands, it is recommended to use only internal cutters.

On relatively light (horticultural) soils, it is permissible to additionally use a third set of cutters (purchased separately). With six cutters, despite the increased load, the Mole motor-cultivator works well, and is even more stable, without tending to “burrow” into the soil.


But the MK-1 Mole walk-behind tractor can no longer handle eight cutters. More precisely, it will pull, but with great difficulty - with overload and overheating of the engine and the risk of breaking the handles. Therefore, it is not advisable to overdo it with cutters. You can try and plow the land; mounted plows for walk-behind tractors are available for sale. The more powerful Krot-2 is capable of more or less satisfactorily coping with this task.

Initially (in 1983), the MK-1 Mole was released as a single-purpose agricultural machine - a “milling-type cultivator.” A number of additional attachments (weeding knife, hilling plow, mower with segmented cutterbar) were developed for the Krot in subsequent years.

As a result of these additions, the motor-cultivator moved into the category of walk-behind tractors, and became on a par with classic walk-behind tractors - such as the popular MTZ-0.5.

For inter-row weeding, it is necessary to install L-shaped weeders on internal cutters instead of soil cultivation knives. And in place of the external cutters, install plant protection disks (purchased separately).


When hilling potatoes:
Instead of soil tillers, metal wheels with lugs are installed (purchased separately). Instead of a coulter, a potato hiller is installed (purchased separately).
When digging up potatoes:

While cutting the grass:
To mow grass for fodder and make hay, a special mower is attached to the front of the cultivator (purchased separately). Wheels are installed on the output shafts of the gearbox. The mower is connected to the engine by a V-belt drive. For this purpose, there is an additional pulley on the engine output shaft.
When pumping water:
To pump water from open reservoirs, you can install a pump connected to the engine by a V-belt drive on the Krota frame. In this case, the V-belt drive must be removed from the traction gearbox. The MNU-2 pumping unit is also, of course, purchased separately.
For cargo transportation:
When working with a small-sized trolley, the “Mole”, of course, crawls like a turtle. However, in certain situations it still helps: it’s still better than carrying sacks of potatoes on your shoulders.

So, the “Mole-2” modification received a gearbox with reverse gear and a more modern, powerful and productive four-stroke Chinese engine. Other design features of the next “Mole” model: the presence of a new improved carburetor, a centrifugal crankshaft speed controller and a new air filter.

Providing the Mole walk-behind tractor with a reverse gear improved its performance in shallow areas, as well as when operating the MK with additional attachments: a trolley, a mower, etc. And the new engine contributed to an increase in productivity, while simultaneously reducing operating fuel consumption, reducing noise levels, and increasing working life. Some manufacturing options are possible, slightly differing in the shape or design of the air cleaner, carburetor, fuel valve, gas tank and other parts.

In addition to official modifications, there are also homemade “variations on the “Mole” theme, made by the owners themselves. Some craftsmen even install electric motors of various designs on Krot motor cultivators. Electricity is supplied via cable. And the Chinese have long liked the design of the Mole motor-cultivator. For several years they simply produced an exact copy of it at their enterprises, and then they also set about improving it.

With the help of Krot cultivators, summer residents and plot owners plow, weed the ground, and hill up potatoes. The machine loosens, mixes, and saturates the soil with oxygen. The processing depth varies from 12 to 25 mm depending on the model. The knives are designed for cutting and grinding the surface soil layer. The unit is simple and convenient to operate.

Features of the motor cultivator

All models of Krot cultivators have a similar design. The machines are equipped with a gear-chain reducer, frame, handles, and a bracket for connecting equipment. An engine is mounted on the frame, communicating with the gearbox shaft through a transmission.

Mills (knives) cultivate the soil at a depth of up to 25 cm. To expand the functionality, additional attachments are provided: a cart, a pump or pump, a mower and other equipment.

The levers present on the handles are used to change the clutch and engine speed. New models can be equipped with a reverse/forward switch. For rolling, simple or rubberized wheels are provided. The wheelbase can be raised or removed.

Engine characteristics

Mole cultivators are equipped with single-cylinder, two-stroke, air-cooled engines. There is a dry air filter and a non-removable manual cable starter. The ignition system is contactless.

The Krota engine has the following characteristics:

  • working volume– 60 cm 3 ;
  • maximum power– 4.78 kW;
  • number of revolutions 5500–6500 per minute;
  • fuel tank capacity– 1.8 l.

Gasoline mixtures with a low octane number and motor oil (20:1) are suitable for refueling.

Transmission

The engine and transmission of Krot cultivators are combined into one system. The gearbox is designed for one gear and is driven through a pulley and V-belt transmission. The clutch is pressed using a handle like a motorcycle.

Modifications of Krot cultivators

Modernized versions of the Mole are equipped with a reverse gearbox. Cultivators may have a modified carburetor, gas tank, or air cleaner.

Modern units are equipped with two- and four-stroke imported engines. The model range includes various electric motors operating from the network. Electric motors are suitable for industrial greenhouses as they do not produce toxic emissions.

There are three main categories of Krot cultivators:

  • M(compact);
  • MK(low power);
  • DDE(powerful).

The MK-1A modification cultivator has a power of 1.9 kW and an engine capacity of 0.6 liters. The working life of the machine is 400 hours. The fuel tank holds 1.8 liters. (mixture of oil and AI-76, AI-80). The unit consumes up to half a liter per hour.

DDE and V700II Specifications

Mole cultivators DDE are in demand among gardeners due to their reliability and power. The model range includes varieties:

  • "DDE 1" with four-stroke single-cylinder Honda engine, air-cooled, skid plate;
  • "DDE 2" with two-stroke Honda engine, additional gear to facilitate earthworks;
  • "V700II"– a series of machines equipped with a domestically produced engine.

The M category cultivation unit is compact in size and has a front wheel for transportation. The machine is equipped with an imported engine and knives (cutters).

What kind of work is the “Mole” cultivator intended for?

The universal cultivator is capable of solving a variety of agricultural tasks with additional equipment:

  • plowing land (with 2–3 sets of cutters);
  • inter-row weeding (special tools in the shape of the letter “L”, disks for protecting cultivated plants will be required);
  • hilling, digging up potatoes (wheels with hooks for soil are attached, a hiller or digger is installed, depending on the type of work);
  • grass cutting (mounted mower, wheels);
  • pumping water from a reservoir (pump MNU-2);
  • transportation of goods up to 200 kg (rubber wheels, TM-200 trailer).
