How to put cash on the door correctly. Choosing door frames

Do-it-yourself door cashing. How to install cash on the door

Cashing doors is not particularly difficult. However, such work should be approached with all seriousness, since it is the correct high-quality installation The attractiveness of the installed door largely depends on the platbands.

Types of platbands

Do-it-yourself door cashing can be done using molded products made of natural wood, MDF or plastic. Experts strongly recommend that you first resort to using veneered or laminated trim made from MDF or PVC. Such platbands are not afraid of moisture, exposure to steam and serious temperature changes. Naturally, platbands from natural wood. At the same time, this option is the most expensive.

Materials for manufacturing platbands and installation features

As mentioned above, there are several common materials for making platbands: wood, MDF and plastic. If we talk about the installation of wooden products, then cashing doors in this case can be carried out by placing the platbands on liquid nails or fastening them in the form of the thinnest nails without heads. If desired, you can carefully cut off the caps yourself. Attaching trims to metal nails looks most neat when the caps are masked with acrylic sealants or a corrective wax pencil.

Cashing front door MDF platbands are made in a special way. To appearance The planks remained as attractive as possible and close to natural wood; all guide holes for fastening to nails are drilled here in advance. Alternatively, MDF trims can be glued in the same way as wood products.

As for plastic trims, it is recommended to glue them to avoid defects. Wherein plastic products perfectly cover impressive uneven walls.

Tools

Cashing doors requires a whole arsenal of tools. To get the job done quickly and efficiently, you will need the following:

  • miter panel saw;
  • roulette;
  • jigsaw;
  • pliers;
  • small hammer;
  • small furniture nails;
  • pencil;
  • construction corner.

Preparing for work

How to cash a door? Before proceeding with specific actions, care must be taken to level the surface of the adjacent walls. Having perfectly flat, smooth walls is a prerequisite when installing platbands. Otherwise, there is a high probability of noticeable gaps appearing between the cashing and the wall. Among other things, you should handle the platbands themselves as carefully as possible, because the appearance of even small scratches can spoil the attractive appearance of the product, which will entail unnecessary waste.

Main nuances when performing work

To ensure that the fastening of the trims to the nails is invisible, you should use acrylic sealant to hide the heads, the color of which matches the shade of the surfaces. Cashing doors if available smooth walls allows the use of liquid nails. In this case, the main difficulty remains to prevent the appearance of noticeable gaps between the individual planks.

To avoid mistakes when cutting the upper casing, the edges of the plank are brought behind the vertical parts. This approach to the installation of platbands makes it possible to achieve complete coincidence of all structural elements.

Cashing at the door - installation

Installation of door trims is carried out according to a number of successive stages:

  • First, you should dismantle the old cash, if any. Coping with these jobs is quite simple. It is enough to have a small pry bar or a screwdriver with which to pry off the old casing. The main thing is not to cause damage door jamb. Also, upon completion of dismantling, it is necessary to remove the nails using pliers.
  • How to install cash on the door? After dismantling the old trims is completed, it is necessary to begin installing new additional trims. It is recommended to give preference to products with factory edge lining.
  • First of all, the left and right additional trim strips are fixed, which are cut according to the length to the required height. After doing the work according to the same principle, the upper bar is set. To strengthen the structure, the side and top extensions can be fastened with self-tapping screws.
  • Platbands are fixed around the entire perimeter door frame, starting with the installation of the right or left platband.
  • Using a construction angle and a panel saw, the edges of the cash are filed at an angle of 45 degrees. The angle is marked with a pencil, and a neat cut is made. In this case, distortions and chips on the front surface should be avoided. When performing such work, it is better to give preference to saws with the smallest teeth.
  • After cutting the corners, measure the distance from the floor covering to the bottom of the top trim, after which 5 mm is added to the resulting value in the form of an allowance. The resulting length is set aside from the previously cut corner of the cashing. The unnecessary upper part is cut off with a jigsaw or small saw. If there is cashing with fastening in a groove, then the required length should be determined by its inner edge.
  • How to nail cash on the door? Using a hammer and small nails, the cash is attached to the door strip or block. The most convenient way to remove nail heads is with wire cutters. It is recommended to hammer nails at intervals of no more than every 50 cm.
  • If, as a result of performing the above work with consistent adherence to all stages, it was possible to achieve an ideal fit of all the components of the cashing, the existing small cracks can be carefully hidden using a special sealant, the shade of which is matched to the color of the door. Installation of platbands with reverse side door frame is carried out according to the same principle.

    Installing cash on doors with your own hands - options for different materials

    Platbands are strips that are installed on the sides (side and top) of the door frame. Their purpose is primarily decorative - they give completeness to the box, hiding underneath the frame beam and technological seams between the wall and the box.

    It is best to choose trims that match the door leaf to create a complete picture. In addition, they serve as protection against dust and provide additional sound insulation.

    This is one of the most simple steps door installation, both technologically and in terms of skills and experience. Therefore, most often when renovating apartments, owners try to perform this operation themselves.

    But nevertheless, as in any business, installing cash on a door with your own hands requires knowledge of the basic principles and small secrets so that the door looks neat.

    The main methods of installing cashing - choosing connection angles

    The main thing that is required for this work is scrupulous measurement and accuracy in work, as well as taking into account some of the nuances of fastening and sawing.

    The choice of material for platbands is wide - it can be wood, plastic, MDF. Along with traditional wood, veneered or laminated frames made of MDF or PVC are increasingly being used. They perfectly tolerate temperature fluctuations, changes in humidity, steam, and have sufficient mechanical strength.

    Plastic trims are best secured with glue or liquid nails. However, this can only be done on a perfectly flat surface. Otherwise, there will be gaps between the platbands and the wall. Or you can come to terms with the fact that the flexible platband bends according to the unevenness of the wall.

    In addition, this may create difficulties if you later need to lay wiring or cables (Internet, TV cable, etc.). True, the cost of plastic trim allows, if necessary, to simply tear them off and then glue new ones.

    Wooden ones are best secured with copper-plated nails without heads (they can be bitten off with pliers), slightly recessed into the wood. Copper will darken in the future and will not stand out general background. You can use a construction gun, which “shoots” the platband with studs without heads. Also, the attachment point can be masked with sealant or a wax pencil to match the trim.

    In MDF trims, it is recommended to drill holes for nails (1 - 1.5 mm in diameter) in advance. Just like the plastic ones. they can be glued - but only on a perfectly flat prepared surface.

    Corners washed down when installing platbands

    There are two ways to connect vertical and horizontal trims - at 90° and at 45°. The choice of angle is determined by the relief of the front side of the platband. If the casing is flat with smooth or slightly rounded sides, you can join at an angle of 90°.

    Also, platbands can be connected at 90° if the door is framed on top by a capital. In this case, the seam between the elements can be made both vertical and horizontal. The only condition is that the cut must be neat, without chips on the outside. After cutting, the end of the cut must be tinted with varnish.

    If the platband has a rounded side edge, then when connected at a right angle, a gap remains between the platbands. In this case, it is necessary to make the cut not perpendicular to the surface, but with an inclination (so that the front part is longer). In this case, the slope will hide most of the seam, and the rest can be covered with wax or sealant.

    However, if the front side has a shaped profile or a rounded surface, it is necessary to saw down the platbands to connect at an angle of 45°. This scheme requires care both during measurements and during operation. The slightest mistake will lead to the appearance of cracks. Chips and scuffs on the front surface can also greatly spoil the appearance.

    For a perfect cut, you must use a special guide machine (miter box) and a hacksaw with fine teeth. But the best method is if you have a cross-cutting machine.

    To reduce the likelihood of chipping, professional carpenters seal the front surface of the casing with electrical tape.

    Method of installing platbands

    Attaching the trim is usually one of the final operations during repairs. It is executed after finishing walls - that is, after wallpapering and before installing skirting boards.

    You need to start installation from the side where the curtains are located ( door hinges), on the side in which the door leaf opens. Due to the presence of hinges, the platband may not be flush with the frame beam.

    First of all, it is necessary to measure the height as accurately as possible along the line located next to the hinges. We set this distance aside from the flattest side of the trim strip. if there is none, you need to cut off the bar and mark the desired point.

    Then draw a line from it at 45° and carefully cut it off. If you don't have a cross-cut saw, you should use a miter box.

    We mark a point exactly horizontally on the opposite side of the door frame and again measure the distance to the floor. These values do not necessarily coincide - a lot depends on the floor level or the characteristics of the door frame. We cut the platband at 45° in the same way.

    Attention! It is better to apply all markings on the back side of the casing, as it is more even.

    Then you should attach the cut strips using a pair of nails - one at the very bottom, the second about a meter from the floor. Bend the upper ends of the planks, and place the blank under them under the upper casing. Having marked the points of contact, we make a cut along them at 45°.

    If all cuts are made accurately, the seams between the trims will be almost invisible. Especially if the ends are tinted in the same color as the trims themselves. If cracks do appear, they will need to be sealed with sealant or wax. Before final installation, it is necessary to attach the trim and close and open the door a couple of times to check whether they interfere with the movement of the door leaf.

    We determine the pitch of nails (studs) for fastening ourselves. The optimal fastening step is 50 cm, but if you like to slam the door, the studs are installed every 15 cm.

    And one last thing. If the apartment has several doors of different sizes, then you need to start practicing from the largest opening - so that if unsuccessful, the trimmings can be used on the smaller door.

    How to cash doors yourself

    Cashing is a decorative element that is attached to the outside and gives a finished appearance to the entire house. Its main purpose is to hide cracks and defects after installing windows and an entrance door. In addition, it improves sound insulation and reduces heat loss.

    How to make the right choice

    When choosing cash on doors and windows, you need to remember that this element immediately catches the eye, so it must be in harmony with the entire building. When choosing or making platbands with your own hands, you need to remember several important points:

    • The platbands should be in harmony in color with the walls of the house.
    • The quality of the material must be at high level to withstand weather conditions: rain, wind, sun, temperature changes. Wooden frames must be coated with high-quality varnishes and paints so that they do not fade or lose their attractive appearance.
    • Balancing the sizes will allow you to achieve a harmonious appearance. Platbands that are too wide will be inappropriate for narrow windows, and vice versa, narrow ones will get lost against the background of wide openings.
    • Internal lining for interior openings and doors is most often flat or round. It will look good on the outside if carved.

    Cash out wooden house best made from wood. This way the structure will look harmonious and beautiful. During construction from modern materials Plastic and metal finishes are appropriate.

    Wooden trims

    Wooden trim is often chosen for installation on the outside of the front door. They are reliable, durable, and easy to make with your own hands. But you need to remember that wooden platbands require constant care, painting and varnishing in order to maintain their appearance at the highest level.

    Carved wooden casing for windows and front doors is made on complex machines. Its price is much higher than usual, but its beauty and sophistication are worth it. You can try to make carvings yourself using chisels, but this work is not easy and requires skill and patience.

    Deciding to make carved frames yourself, you need to consider the following tips:

    • the cash drawing must be made in the same style;
    • carving can be processed not only with varnish, but also painted in different colors;
    • the upper horizontal bar can be made in the form of a “kokoshnik”;
    • vertical slats can be longer than the opening and represent a “towel” with drains for rainwater.

    Plastic trim

    Advantages of plastic platbands:

    • affordable price;
    • large selection of colors and textures;
    • reliability and durability;
    • ease of care.

    The plastic cash strip comes in different widths. It can be attached in two ways:

    • for mounting elements - non-removable structure;
    • on special latches - removable design.

    Installation on special latches or nipples is very simple and convenient. Platband on inside has cavities into which they are inserted. These latches are screwed around the perimeter of the frame using ordinary self-tapping screws. The cashing strip is applied to the attachment point and, using a little force, the nipple is inserted into the groove.

    Depending on the width of the casing, there may be two, three or four grooves. They can also be used to lay television cables.

    Manufacturing of wooden platbands

    In order to make platbands for entrance or interior doors with your own hands. First you need to select a material of suitable quality and prepare a tool for the job.

    The cashing for the door should be made of a dry board so that it does not move after fastening. You need to pay close attention to the appearance of the material. If the board is to be coated only with varnish, then the color of the wood should be even, without stains that indicate a violation of the drying technology. They can only be removed by painting. The board should be free of knots; they increase the likelihood of breaks and cracks when working with your own hands.

    The manufacturing process consists of the following stages:

  • The dimensions of the window or door opening are determined and the values are transferred to the board.
  • Blanks are cut for cashing.
  • Rough grinding is carried out, and then manually using fine sandpaper the external surface of the cashing is brought to perfect condition.
  • The casing is treated with a protective compound.
  • You can use platbands from old door if they are the right size. To do this, they need to be cleared of the old coating, cleaned, sanded and coated with paint or varnish.

    DIY installation

    Installing cash is not a complicated process, so you can do it yourself. To do this you need to follow the following instructions:

  • Measure the height of the window or door opening and transfer it to the vertical slats.

  • Cut the trim to the required length.
  • Place them in place to determine the dimensions of the horizontal bar.
  • Attach the cash in place using self-tapping screws or liquid nails.

  • A house should be beautiful not only inside, but also outside. Thoughtful framing of the windows and front door will help make it attractive and set it apart from other buildings.

    Door trims are used mainly to hide its shortcomings that arose during the work associated with its installation. They also simply ennoble her, making her more beautiful and attractive. If a person buys a new structure, then he must decide how to attach the trim to the door. There are actually several methods on how this can be done.

    Next, 4 methods will be discussed. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Not all of them can be used in a given situation. How each of them can be used will be described in detail here. Door trims can become a real decoration of the interior or simply ruin it. It all depends on the right choice fastenings

    Tools and materials

    Of course, before you begin installing the door frames, you must prepare all necessary tool and materials. So, for work you need to purchase:

    • side cutters;
    • drill or screwdriver;
    • screwdriver;
    • hammer;
    • self-tapping screws;
    • finishing nails;
    • liquid Nails;
    • wood drill;
    • pencil;
    • wooden platbands with latches.

    This set is quite enough to perform one of the proposed fastenings. Of course, in each specific case it is worth taking a closer look only at those things that are necessary.

    Application of finishing nails

    This method of fastening door frames is used quite often. This is because it is quite simple. Thanks to this method, you can remove the platband and install it in its rightful place at any time. The work is carried out quite quickly, if not primitively. Experts recommend using not ordinary nails, but those that have a flattened surface on top. Their length should be approximately 4 cm.

    Platband diagram with dimensions.

    In this case, the diameter is selected to be at least 1.5 mm. Here you can think about making your work a little easier. Driving nails directly into the frame is quite difficult. Moreover, this procedure can harm the structural element.

    To prevent this from happening, you can use a drill. This will allow you to drill holes in the casing. They need to be placed at a distance of approximately 5-7 cm from each other. This is the only way to achieve an acceptable result. Many may think that nails that stick out from the outside of the structure can ruin the overall aesthetics. In fact, this defect can be gotten rid of quite easily. For this, side cutters are used. With their help, nail heads are removed. You can paint them over with a wax pencil.

    This method is also quite effective. From a distance, no one will understand that the door frames are secured with nails. Now we can state the fact that the work is completed, which means that the first method has been fully considered. Now you can move on to the second option.

    Using liquid nails

    This method has certain limitations. It can only be used in cases where the platbands are made of MDF panels. In this case, the surface on which the fastening is made must be perfectly smooth. The work itself is quite simple, if not primitive.

    You need to apply liquid nails to the back side of the platband, and then lean it against the wall with this side. Then you must press down so that both surfaces tightly grip each other.

    After this, the platband must be removed from the wall. You should then wait about two minutes before proceeding further. After which the platband is again applied to the same place. It is not worth holding it, since one material will be attached to another for a long time. To fix door frames in their rightful place, it is best to use tape. It is worth immediately highlighting the main advantage of this method.

    It lies in the fact that there are no traces left on the front side of the casing mechanical impact. This allows you to preserve the aesthetics of the room, and often this is the main thing that is required from platbands. If a person decides to remove them, it will be extremely difficult to do so. The thing is that liquid nails differ quite high performance strength. However, if possible, then this method should be used as one of the most reliable.

    Fastening with self-tapping screws

    Fastening platbands finishing nails is characterized by simplicity and reliability.

    Fastening with self-tapping screws is a standard option. It allows you to create a truly high-quality connection. You will have to work with wood, which means that self-tapping screws should be used specifically for this material. Good, modern market offers a wide variety of solutions. As for the length of the fastener, it must be at least 2 cm.

    For work, it is best to use a screwdriver or drill. With their help, screwing in screws will be much easier. To ensure that the fasteners do not stick out above the casing, you must make small holes using a pre-prepared drill. It takes enough large diameter so that you can easily work with the surface.

    Self-tapping screws do not always look attractive, so if possible, their heads should be hidden.

    Various solutions are used for this. For example, you can buy special decorative overlays without any problems. A wax pencil will do the job perfectly. It will fix the defect in a few seconds. After this, the door will look very beautiful and attractive.

    Use of clasp on latches

    This fastening method has also become quite widespread. Outwardly, such a casing looks a little like the letter G. That is why it was nicknamed the casing with a beak. This is the simplest fastening method. The section of the part that has the largest dimensions is placed in a special recess. After this, it is snapped into place. This method, although popular, has some disadvantages.

    The most important thing is that the casing itself can gradually delaminate. This occurs due to the fact that the fastening itself is damaged as a result of removal or putting on. This very often leads to the fact that the platband simply collapses at the junction. MDF panels are not as powerful as other options. After several such repetitions, there is a high probability that you will have to use glue as an additional fastening. This may result in a permanent connection. As a result of such manipulations, the appearance of the platbands also suffers.

    So, four main options for fastening door trims were discussed above. As is clear, they all have the right to exist. Each of them has a certain set of advantages and disadvantages. It is very important in a specific situation to correctly determine the optimal mounting option.

    Sections of the article:

    The platbands on any doors have a common important purpose - closing the mounting seams between the wall and the door frame. This design has no other purpose. Without trims, the door functions the same as with them. However, thanks to the platbands, a pleasant appearance of the structure and the room as a whole is ensured. When choosing platbands, you should take into account that not all walls are the same in thickness and you often have to come up with a way out of the situation when the walls are wider than the frame. One solution to the problem is to build up a narrow frame, but such actions significantly spoil general form. Most the best option The solution to this situation is telescopic door frames.

    Key features of telescopic platbands

    The concept of “telescopic” for this type of platbands is quite arbitrary, since the platband cannot be moved forward and backward. The design can be transformed using an adjustable corner. The extension process occurs by moving the corner shelf into a special groove located in the end part of the box. During such movements of parts, the casing can be expanded or narrowed. At its core, this device is a combined type platband with the presence of an additional strip.

    Kinds

    Despite the unique versatility of the product, the telescopic casing has 2 types of design: a standard product and an extended type. Standard products include platbands with one corner. Such designs can increase the width of the door frame by no more than 2 cm.

    Expanded-type platbands can increase the size of the door frame by up to 15 cm. They are additionally equipped with an extension strip that has a special groove for the corner platband.

    Thus, both versions of the product cope perfectly with their functional tasks. The main difference between them is the presence of an additional element and the principle of purpose of the device.

    Materials of manufacture and dimensions

    The base material for the manufacture of telescopic casing is the same as for conventional materials. The most popular of them: MDF, natural wood, chipboard sheets. In this case, it is allowed to use natural wood coated with veneer, lamination, plastic panels and aluminum.

    In this case, the principle of material selection is quite simple: the platband must match the door leaf. Based on this principle, wooden platbands are installed with wooden panels, and door structures made of chipboard involve the placement of telescopic platbands made of the same material.

    Dimensions

    The concept of the dimensions of a sliding telescopic platband is quite relative. It is especially difficult to include product varieties with the possibility of significant expansion in this classification. In addition, it is worth considering that existing platbands and their additional strips can be trimmed both lengthwise and crosswise.

    However, with this functionality, it is worth considering the feasibility of the product in a particular case, because the longer and wider the platband, the greater its cost. At the same time, after the parts are inserted into the grooves, the structure can have dimensions that do not differ much from the standard models.

    The width of the decorative bar in most cases ranges from 60 to 80 mm. In this case, the width of the shelf, which is inserted into the grooves, has a standard fixed value of 40 mm on the outside. The length of the beams of this set is 2.2 and 2.1 m. The additional additional strip in most cases has a width of 80 to 120 mm, with a product length similar to the platbands.

    Installation features

    The installation of this type of platbands is somewhat different from the installation of standard platbands. The entire process of fixing doorway consists of several stages:

    • Adjustment of additional slats and platbands;
    • Installation of extensions;
    • Installation of platbands.

    Adjustment of additional strips of platbands

    The fitting procedure consists of cutting all the strips to fit required parameters door frames. Both the width of the additional slats and the length of the planks with telescopic platbands are cut off.

    At this stage, accuracy is important. Even a seemingly insignificant error in measurements or when cutting products can lead to the formation of large visible gaps when installing the structure in the areas where horizontal and vertical planks meet. In this case, the product will be damaged because it will not look like a single whole.

    When working with telescopic platbands, the first priority is to correct the additional strips. And until they are installed and securely fastened, the platbands themselves are not cut off.

    Cutting the extension can be done by making a straight cut, or at an angle of 45 degrees. However, if you have no experience in making precise corner cuts, you should not start learning with telescopic trims. For a new carpentry novice, it is best to make a straight cut.

    Installation of extensions

    According to the standard, on the back of the box, on one of the sides there is a seat in the form of a selected quarter for installing an additional strip. It is in this hole that the strip will be installed. To install it, you simply need to insert it and wedge it using wedges or pieces of slats in the area of the selected quarter.

    The main condition for such installation is to ensure that there are no wedges protruding beyond the walls. After the wedging procedure, the remaining space between the doorway and the extension rail is blown in using polyurethane foam.

    It is worth remembering that when using polyurethane foam, when it expands during the blowing process, various deformation processes may occur in the structure. To prevent them, it is necessary to use special spacers. If you do not want to space the extensions using jumpers, you can use a polyurethane type sealant. Such substances have a small pressure created during the solidification process of the mass. In most cases, these sealants are standardly marked with the number 65.

    Installation of straight telescopic trims

    To ensure correct and reliable installation of platbands, their precise trimming is very important to avoid the appearance of cracks. The installation procedure itself involves inserting products into the grooves intended for this purpose in the extensions or in the door frame itself.

    The procedure for driving the strip into the groove is best done by tapping the product using a rubber mallet. An ordinary hammer can also be used for this purpose, but in this case it is necessary to use light translational movements through a spacer in the form of a block of soft wood. Since in most cases these elements are inserted very tightly, there is no need to use additional fasteners.

    If situations arise when the grooves are unable to reliably hold structural elements, it is permissible to use other fastening measures in the form of gluing using mounting adhesive or nails. When using adhesive compositions, it should be taken into account that dismantling the product with this fastening method will only be possible by breaking the structural elements. And for fastening with nails it is better to use special nails. They have virtually no head, which allows for reliable installation with fastening of the structure without obvious traces of installation.

    When installing straight telescopic trims, problems often arise with the awnings and the strike plate of the locking system. The essence of the problem lies in the presence of fastening screws that interfere with the installation and fastening of the telescopic casing. In such a situation, there are two options for solving the problem.

    The first method is to make minor cuts at the points of contact with the screws. This will ensure free passage and fastening of parts. The second method is to remove all existing structural elements that impede installation. In this case, after installation, the fasteners will be mounted back. The second method is more preferable because it ensures the integrity of all structural parts. At the same time, not only the lock strike plate and awnings, but also the telescopic platbands themselves will be fixed using self-tapping screws.

    Decorative strips are used to update and decorate interior doors. Interior platbands carry several functional loads as a frame. It’s easy to install platbands with your own hands; you just need to decide on the installation method.

    Functions of the door trim element

    Door frames on interior openings are a completely familiar decorative element for us.

    Wooden profiled platbands

    At its core, the platband is a decorative overlay that serves as a frame door design. The main function of the part is to cover the gap at the junction between the wall surface and the frame of the interior or entrance block.

    The presence of this element is quite familiar and understandable, but the decorative component, which is often attributed to the lining, also carries a number of other functional loads:

    • Cash at the door covers the shortcomings installation work for installing a door frame.
    • Platbands for interior doors significantly increase the sound insulation performance of adjacent rooms.
    • The decorative strip prevents dust from penetrating into the adjacent room.
    • Finishing doors with platbands is guaranteed to isolate the room from drafts.

    Structural finishing of the opening

    The only function of the door frame in the form of giving the doorway aesthetics is accompanied by a number of useful additions. Due to this, the installation of the platband completes the complex of complete isolation of the adjacent room in the building.

    Previously, platbands in the form of carved openwork strips framed window and door openings of country-type buildings. Today, the fashion for handicrafts by masterful architects is returning, which can be seen in many modern buildings.

    Carved platbands on a modern log house

    Of course, if in the old days everyone could afford to install carved overlays, since virtually everyone possessed, many even primitive, skill. Nowadays, not everyone can afford to decorate a building with an openwork frame.

    MDF trim material

    Door trims in modern form- This is a plastic, metal or wooden lining, trimmed with various kinds of material or painted. Elements for framing openings can also be created from composite materials. Types, forms decorative elements and how to select them for the design, everything is described in previous articles, so there is no need to dwell on this now. After all, our main task is to tell about in various ways cashing installations.

    There are many factors to consider when making repairs. After pouring the floors and finishing the walls, they always start installing the doors. You can’t do without them either in a house or in an apartment. Doors allow you to zone a room. There are two types of them - entrance and interior. Installation of the latter is complicated by the fact that the casing needs to be installed correctly. There are several ways to do this. How to install a platband on interior door? Photo and description this process- further in our article.

    What are platbands needed for?

    First of all, you need to find out for what purpose these elements are installed. And they are needed to perform an aesthetic function. The task of the platbands is to create a frame that covers all the cracks and construction defects that exist between the door frame and the wall. Also, with the help of platbands you can give the room a unique design. For this purpose, special capitals are used (we will talk about them a little later).

    What should you pay attention to?

    Before installing a trim on an interior door with your own hands, you need to pay attention to its structure when choosing. So, the color and shade of the strip should match that of the interior door itself. Materials may vary. This is wood, plastic, MDF. On the outside, the casing can be additionally coated with varnish, laminated film or sealed with veneer. When purchasing a product, it is important to check it for curvature and bending. The platbands should not have defects, as this will lead to large gaps.

    Some platbands may have capitals. This allows you to make the doors look more expensive and unique. Usually such platbands are made of wood or MDF sheets. If you need to add some zest to the room, you can use such capitals.

    Methods

    There are several ways to install a platband on an interior door:

    • With cutting at a degree.
    • At right angles.

    Installation at an angle of 45 degrees

    This method involves cutting individual parts at a certain angle. This is the most popular way to install a trim on an interior door. This method is suitable for platbands with any configuration.

    What tools will be useful?

    There may be different cladding elements found in stores. Their front part can be smooth, carved, or be a curved arc. The challenge will be trimming these corners. For a high-quality result, a miter saw will be useful. Without this tool, it will be difficult to work, especially if these are veneered or colored laminated products. It will be difficult to make an accurate and clean cut even with an electric jigsaw. Therefore, it is impossible to do without special devices. Among them it is worth noting:

    • Miter box. This instrument is cheap, simple, but not very accurate. It is a kind of template made in the form of a groove. There are slots at the top that determine the cutting angle. Using cutting tool will clog the slots, and then the quality of work will decrease. Therefore, a miter box can be classified as a disposable tool.
    • Rotary hand hacksaw. Experts advise choosing this instrument. It allows for clean and precise cutting. Working with a manual rotary hacksaw is quite simple. It is enough to turn the saw at a certain angle and manually make the cut, moving back and forth.

    What is the essence of the manual pruning method? To complete the work, you need to draw a line yourself, keeping strictly specified angle(45 degrees). Next, use a hacksaw for metal (if you don’t have one, use an electric jigsaw) to make a precise cut. But to get a quality result, you need to have a certain skill. To make a cut without chips or other defects, you need to apply tape to the decorative surface. It will serve as protection against chipping.

    Please note: auxiliary tools should include a ruler, square, plumb line, level and pencil.

    Installation with cutting corners at right angles

    In what cases is it recommended to use this method? It is relevant when installing moldings of rectangular cross-section or with slightly rounded edges. What is the essence of this method? Here the planks are connected at an angle of 90 degrees. And the top casing is inserted between the side ones. This makes it easier to adjust and trim joints. However, to get a high-quality result, you need accurate measurements and a clean cut. Ideally, you can join only those platbands that have an even rectangular shape. If the elements have curves (even small ones), you will have to accurately calculate the length of the top rail and the height of the side trims.

    Here a regular straight cut will not be enough. Due to the rounding, when cutting straight, the ends of the upper casing will be visible. But what to do in this case? To do this you need to make an inclined cut. In this case, the slope should be from the front part of the rail to the back. The docking will generally remain at an angle of 90 degrees.

    How to install a trim on an interior door? Please note that this method will not work for elements with a carved or rounded configuration. In this situation, you need to install only at an angle of 45 degrees.

    Installation technology

    So, let's figure out how to install platbands on an interior door yourself. This operation is performed in a certain sequence:

    • and platbands for interior doors? The first step is to take measurements from the door frame. Measure the height of the beam stand from the floor to the area where it intersects with the top beam. This size must be recorded.
    • Take one of the long strips and set aside the result from the flattest section of the platband. If there are none, you need to draw a straight line closer to the edge using a corner. If the installation is performed at an angle of 45 degrees, another 3 millimeters are added to the resulting size. This is done because door overhangs push the casing away from the edge of the door frame. When installing at a right angle, you also need to make a 3-mm margin, but in addition the width of the mounted platbands is added.
    • Depending on the chosen installation method, the top edge is trimmed according to the markings.
    • The first plank is installed. It must be mounted on the side where the awnings are located. The plank is secured with small nails. The cap of the latter must then be bitten off with pliers. And so that the nails do not stand out on the surface, it is advisable to buy copper ones. This metal darkens over time and the dots become unremarkable.
    • The next side plank is cut in the same way. Then it is installed in place. However, during installation it is important to pay attention to the length of the casing. It may vary. This indicator will depend not only on the evenness of the floor, but also on the correct installation of the door block. Therefore, measurements are taken separately for the second plank.
    • Start installing the top casing. The difficulty of the work here is that you need to trim two ends. First, they cut one edge and do a preliminary fitting. If all is well, you need to measure the location of the second cut and make a cut.

    That's it, the installation is complete.

    How to get rid of gaps?

    After installation, unsightly gaps may form at the joints. There is only one way to eliminate them. To do this, the gap is distributed on both sides of the door block, and then masked with wax paste, which is designed to combat chips on furniture. This paste has different colors and shades.

    How to install telescopic trims on interior doors?

    The work is performed in several steps:

    • First, the trim and additional strips are adjusted. It is necessary to cut the platband in one or two sizes - to fit it to the doorway and frame. The main thing is not to make a mistake in size. Even millimeters are important here. If they are not taken into account, gaps may form as a result, which will spoil the appearance.
    • Additional strips are selected. At the same time, there is no need to touch the casing itself yet.
    • The addition is being installed. There is a selected quarter on the back of the door frame. It serves as a seat for the additional strip. This is where it needs to be installed. The part is inserted and wedged in the area of the selected quarter using pieces of slats (or wedges). It is important that the wedges do not extend beyond the wall.
    • After this, the area between the doorway and the extension must be filled with polyurethane foam. If you do not plan to expand the additional strips with jumpers, you can choose a polyurethane sealant. It does not expand during the drying process, like polyurethane foam. But there is also sealant different brands. It is worth choosing one that has low pressure during the hardening process. One of these is “Macroflex-65”.
    • Start installing the platband. This work is not as difficult as previous operations. The main thing is to accurately trim the length so that there are no gaps in the areas where different planks are connected. How to properly install platbands on interior doors? To do this, they need to be inserted into the groove of the door frame. Sometimes it is necessary to install a trim on the interior door trim. How to do it? The element is inserted quite tightly. There is no need to attach additionally. If the fastening is still unreliable, you can use liquid nail glue. You can also nail them with small nails. But then the caps will stick out.

    Here's how to install trim on interior doors. In Mogilev, for this work they demand 11 rubles per linear meter. But as you can see, the operation can be performed with your own hands. Installation of platbands is usually not ordered separately. This work is carried out together with the installation of the interior door itself.

    There are situations when platbands of the same size cannot be used, since cashing cannot be installed in width. Here the platbands can be cut to a width of no more than ¾. Every master should know this rule. The upper casing should be installed only after the two vertical ones have been secured.

    Conclusion

    So, we found out how to install a trim on an interior door. As you can see, the work is not too difficult. But for the result to be of high quality, it is necessary to take correct measurements.
