Handmade bathroom countertop. Bathroom countertop under the sink: selection and self-production

Nowadays, bathrooms feature many design solutions. The hygiene room has been transformed into a sophisticated space with maximum functionality and amenities. For even more comfortable use of bathrooms, you need to choose a high-quality countertop under the sink.

Peculiarities

Instead of a cabinet under the sink or the usual shelves, today a horizontal surface is installed that can be used as a large table. You can place all the necessary accessories for your own hygiene on it. A sink and faucet are harmoniously built into the surface. A washing machine, laundry basket and practical drawers for towels or other things.

When choosing, you must first of all pay attention to the room in which the countertop is installed. The constant influence of steam, water, high humidity and temperature changes creates specific requirements for the materials from which it must be made. Therefore, when choosing a tabletop, you need to take into account not only decorative and aesthetic parameters, but also features for caring for it, as well as the functional properties of the product.

In addition, you need to remember that the working surface of the countertop with washbasin will be exposed to various cleaning agents and detergents during constant use.

Kinds

The countertop in the bathroom is also a separate element of the interior. They differ from each other in their configuration, size and dimensions, the materials from which they are made, as well as the method of fastening. Sometimes there may be several sinks on one countertop. They can be angular, multi-level and with various interior curves.

An important nuance when installing countertops is the fastening of the structure.

According to the method of fastening, tabletops are divided into three types.

  • Invoices. Installed on the floor using supports or legs, like a table or cabinet.
  • Hanging. Suspended from the wall using special durable brackets.
  • Semi-suspended. One side is suspended from the wall as in the suspended mounting option, and the second is installed on the floor, as in the overhead mounting option.

By design Countertops are also divided into three types.

  • Solid cast is a countertop that and the sink are a single whole. This tabletop is not collapsible.
  • With built-in sink. A hole is cut in the countertop to fit the size of the built-in sink.
  • With a countertop sink. An overhead sink is mounted on top of the countertop, which can be easily replaced if necessary.

You can mount a round sink or in the form of a bowl.

Materials

Today, manufacturers of bathroom furniture use various high-tech equipment and Newest technologies, therefore they can offer countertops from a variety of materials.

A natural stone

Suitable for those who care about quality and decent appearance. This tabletop looks very noble and expensive. Has significant weight. It is also worth noting that the pattern of a stone cut on such a tabletop will never be repeated anywhere else, as it is unique. Its main advantages are heat resistance, durability, and wear resistance. Such a surface is almost impossible to damage, and if scratches occur, they can be easily polished. The disadvantages of this material include the large weight of the product, high cost, and difficulty in installation and processing.

Basically, marble and granite are used to make countertops. Much less common are quartz, onyx and gabbro (frozen magma). Installing such a countertop, as a rule, costs one third of the cost of the product itself, and it is unlikely that you will be able to install such a piece of furniture yourself.

Fake diamond

It looks no worse than natural, while the choice of colors and different decorative solutions much wider than natural stone. The design itself is slightly lighter in weight compared to its natural counterpart.

Divided into two types.

  • Acrylic stone, which is the most common material in the production of countertops. Consists of acrylic resin, mineral chips and various color pigments. The main advantages of this stone are its maintainability, the ability to produce complex shapes, ease of maintenance, the cost is significantly lower than natural stone, and invisible joints. Disadvantages: low strength, stains from acids and paints remain, low heat resistance, difficulty in installation and processing.
  • Quartz agglomerate. Consists of quartz, granite or marble chips, polyester resin and various additives and dyes. Produced using high pressure, which gives the material excellent strength. This stone has the following advantages: durability, heat resistance, ease of maintenance. Disadvantages: cannot be repaired, difficult to install and process, heavy weight, high cost compared to acrylic stone, no possibility of manufacturing complex structures.

Natural wood

Bathroom vanity tops are made from three types of wood: oak, larch, teak. Manufacturers also offer countertops glued together from pieces of various types of wood and impregnated with moisture-resistant liquids. In any case, these surfaces need to be covered with more than one layer of special varnish.

Advantages of wood: ease of installation and processing, the ability to produce complex shapes. Disadvantages: low strength, questionable durability.

Glass

A glass tabletop is universal, since glass, especially transparent glass, will suit almost any interior.

There are also:

  • tabletops made of frosted glass - they are the most popular because they do not cast shadows, cover the contents under the tabletop and scratches are almost invisible on them;
  • optical tabletops made of glass - equipped with LED lighting, which creates a beautiful lighting effect around;
  • products made of colored glass with patterns and a unique appearance - are created from several layers, each of which can be different color, with beautiful drawings, and also have 3D effects;

  • tinted - made of special thermally tempered glass or tinted with a film on the inside of the surface;
  • mirror - used extremely rarely due to the fact that any defects and even minor drops of water and fingerprints are clearly visible on the surface.

Despite their fragile appearance, glass countertops are quite durable and not so easy to break. Advantages glass table tops: easy to care for, heat resistance, durability, low cost. Disadvantages: fragility during installation, processing and operation.

MDF and chipboard

Many people are skeptical about countertops made from these materials, to put it mildly. But due to their low cost and ease of installation, they are popular. Panels for countertops of this type are made from wood scraps and sawdust. Toxic adhesive is added to chipboard. MDF is produced using high pressure. At the moment of strong compression, a substance is released from the crushed wood, which is an adhesive base. The slabs are covered with a special moisture-resistant film, which gives wide possibilities in choosing colors and different patterns.

Advantages: light weight, ease of installation and processing, easy maintenance, low cost, fast production time. Disadvantages: short service life, low strength.

Drywall

This manufacturing method is used for finishing work surface countertops with tiles or mosaics. To do this, use a galvanized profile to prevent rust, and moisture-resistant drywall. This technology allows you to make any shape of tabletop. After it is ready, ceramic tiles or mosaics are laid on it.

Caring for such a countertop is the same as for ceramic tiles. Advantages: versatility, durability, easy care. Disadvantages: difficult installation and dismantling.

Plastic

Plastic countertops are lightweight and durable, come in a variety of colors and shades, and are also low in cost. Advantages: plasticity, durability, easy care. Disadvantages: low strength, low heat resistance.

Dimensions

The parameters and dimensions of countertops for bathroom sinks depend on the following indicators:

  • the size of the room itself in which installation is planned;
  • size, for example, the width and shape of the shell (or shells, if there is more than one);
  • method of its/their installation;
  • the material from which the tabletop will be made.

Glass countertops have more elegant and thin shapes. Models made of natural and artificial stone, plasterboard and natural wood will be more massive and bulky. Countertops made of MDF and chipboard will have medium dimensions, something between glass and stone products.

Review of manufacturers

Today, there are many manufacturers of countertops for bathroom sinks, so choosing a worthy sample will not be difficult. The main thing is to decide on the choice of material from which the surface will be made, discuss the timing, dimensions and cost.

You need to pay attention to the fact that products made from natural stone are made to order quite for a long time, and if you are offered short time manufacturing, then it’s worth thinking about. You can also familiarize yourself with the assortment of ready-made offers from large stores selling goods for renovation and interior design.

Among the manufacturers are:

  • Vitra. This is a company from Turkey, which in 2011 took a risk and offered cooperation to a designer from Russia, Dima Loginov. His designer ceramic countertop is extremely popular. Over seven years of cooperation, several collections were created.
  • Ceramica Bardelli. This is a newcomer to the vanity countertop industry. This company has recently begun to involve both famous and unknown designers in the development of its own collections. The Ceramica Bardelli factory produces products based on sketches by the famous Piero Fornasetti, professional Luca Scacchetti, innovator Tord Buntje, Gio Ponti and others.
  • Pamesa. The company produces products under the logo of Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Distinctive feature This brand has expressive, blinding, poisonous colors.

How to choose?

The sink countertop is a fairly new solution in the interior of bathrooms. The advantage of such countertops is that instead of various cabinets and shelves, you now have a whole table at your disposal on which you can store many accessories. You can place it under the tabletop washing machine and any design with drawers.

The operation of such a countertop is significantly different from the operation of a kitchen countertop. In the kitchen there are more aggressive factors, for example, mechanical or high temperature influences. In the bathroom, vegetables are usually not cut, meat is not beaten, and hot pots are not placed on the surface. The main negative impact factors here are high humidity and constant contact with water and various detergents.

The most durable and strong is stone. A well-made product will last for many decades. When choosing this material, you need to take into account its heavy weight, high cost and rather long production process.

Artificial stone is practically not inferior to natural stone in durability and strength, while at the same time having a lower cost. Also attractive is the huge selection of color and graphic solutions for countertops made of this material.

Choosing fake diamond You should know that on acrylic stone, if the tabletop consists of several parts, you can remove all seams and joints, giving the surface the appearance of a monolith. But this cannot be done with quartz agglomerate, which is produced only in the form of tiles of a certain size.

The best option glass tabletops may become available. At their average cost, you can get an aesthetic appearance of the bathroom and good strength and wear resistance of the product. This design will harmoniously fit into a bathroom of any size. This type of product is made of tempered glass or laminated plexiglass. Tempered glass, when broken, crumbles into small cubes with edges that are difficult to cut on, and multilayer plexiglass, when damaged, becomes covered with cracks, but does not crumble into pieces due to the film between the layers of glass.

Even in emergency cases, glass products are practically safe for humans.

A tabletop for a bathroom sink made of plasterboard is the choice of people who know how to make beautiful interior with their own hands or want to bring their design project to life, but manufacturers of standard countertops will not take on it. Also, with the help of this design you can profitably beat various disadvantages premises.

The cost of the structure itself is relatively low; the final price will depend on the tiles or mosaics chosen for final finishing and the size of the product.

A wooden countertop will fill the bathroom with the warmth emanating from natural wood, and the grace with which a wooden product fits into the design of tiles and metal is incomparable. But when choosing such a countertop, you must not forget that this material requires careful care, and the wood itself, in comparison with other materials for countertops, is quite soft, subject to deformation and moisture absorption.

It is advisable that the room with a product of this kind has good ventilation and does not accumulate moisture.

A countertop made of MDF or chipboard today is not only one of the most budget options, but also the most short-lived product for bathrooms. Despite the fact that manufacturers claim moisture-resistant materials used in the production of countertops, practice shows that the service life of such products is significantly lower than that of all others.

When choosing a countertop made of chipboard, you need to remember that the very composition from which the countertop is made can be toxic. The fact is that the adhesive used in the production of panels emits formaldehyde, which is dangerous to human health. Therefore, pay attention to the E index indicated in the product documentation. If it is equal to zero or one, then such material can be used at home.

Plastic table top is the most budget option and has a corresponding appearance. When choosing plastic, you need to remember that it can be toxic.

How to make it yourself?

Not all types of countertops can be made independently. The surface of any stone and glass requires processing using special equipment and the application of certain skills and knowledge. Today, you can make your own countertop for a bathroom sink from wood and plasterboard.

When making a wooden tabletop we will need wood slab to suit the size of the tabletop, moisture-resistant impregnation for wooden coverings, joint sealant, tools. To begin with, we take all the measurements in the place where the tabletop will be installed, and think over the fastening method. We cut out a tabletop from a wooden blank using an electric jigsaw, using the dimensions and shapes taken in advance in the bathroom.

After this, in the resulting countertop we make a hole for the siphon if the sink is counter-mounted, or we cut a hole for the sink if it is built-in. A hole is also made for the tap according to its diameter if it is to be mounted in a countertop and not in a wall. If the countertop will have two or more sinks, then cut out holes for all the elements. At the same time, you need to make in advance all the necessary holes for attaching the tabletop to the wall and/or floor, depending on its design.

When the shape of the tabletop is ready and all the necessary holes have been made, we proceed to processing the edges. For this we need sandpaper and a special machine. The entire surface of the countertop to be treated should be smooth and even after treatment. Having finished processing the edges and holes, we proceed to coating the wood and all its ends with a moisture-resistant composition in accordance with the instructions on the packaging. The next stage is varnishing, also according to the manufacturer's instructions. It is advisable to apply the moisture-resistant composition and varnish in several layers.

Don't forget about the ends, edges and holes. There, too, everything needs to be processed efficiently. After the applied products have completely dried, the tabletop is ready for assembly. In this case, all joints adjacent to the countertop, walls, sink and faucet must be treated with sealant. This will prevent moisture from entering and stagnating in hard-to-reach places.

The technology for making your own countertops from MDF or chipboard is practically no different from the option with wood. No varnish, moisture-resistant composition or treatment required sandpaper. But if the tabletop design has rounded corners, then after cutting the ends of such corners will need to be sealed with a special film. You won't be able to do this on your own.

That is why it is better to immediately order a complex configuration of a table top made of MDF or chipboard with all the holes and bends in accordance with the project from the manufacturer of such products.

Making a tabletop from plasterboard is a more complex process, but it also gives more opportunities to make curved, rounded and other unusual shapes of the structure. We will need moisture-resistant drywall. It is sold in ready-made sheets. We calculate their number from the dimensions of the planned tabletop and multiply it by two, since the base is made in two layers.

We also need a profile, which must be galvanized. It will be used in all load-bearing structures of the planned tabletop, and drywall will be attached to it. Accordingly, the number of profiles depends on the size and configuration of the project. If you plan to have curves on the surface of the product, then it is best to purchase flexible drywall for arches. You will also need screws for metal, glue for gluing sheets of drywall, tile adhesive, tile or mosaic, moisture-resistant sealant, and seam sealant.

If you are planning a curved design of the product, then only mosaic is suitable as a cladding.

When everything is ready for work, then we begin manufacturing the product. Having decided on the height at which the tabletop will be located, draw a horizontal line and screw the cut profile to the wall. If the structure will have several levels in height, then we screw the profiles to the wall in accordance with the intended design. After this, we also assemble the frame of our future table from the profiles. This type of tabletop cannot be suspended, so do not forget to make supports. When the frame is assembled, we cover it with sheets of plasterboard.

It should be noted that drywall itself will not last long under constant exposure to moisture, so the better and more airtight the tile or mosaic is laid, the longer the assembled structure will last. Tiles or mosaics not only create a beautiful appearance, but also protect the table from moisture.

After the frame is covered with plasterboard and all the necessary holes are cut, we begin tiling or mosaic. The technology for laying tiles is the same as for walls and floors. When the tiles or mosaics are laid and all the seams are treated with sealant, we install the sink, faucet and siphon, and connect all communications.

When installing a structure under a sink in a bathroom, you must take into account its weight and method of fastening. Suspended structures pose the greatest danger, so you need to pay attention not only to the fastenings of the tabletop, but also to the strength of the wall to which they will be attached. The mounting bracket itself must be made of steel with an angular or square profile.

If the tabletop is heavy, then the bracket must have diagonal reinforcement. This bracket has the shape of a triangle. You can also use brackets in the form of squares or rectangles. The bottom crossbar of such a bracket can be used as an additional hanger for towels and similar things.

If the structure is overhead and is installed on supports or legs, then it must additionally be attached to the wall, which will prevent it from moving in different directions.

All joints and places where moisture accumulates must be treated with moisture-resistant polyurethane sealant. When manufacturing and installing plasterboard countertops, do not forget to leave access to pipes and taps for their maintenance, repair or replacement. Otherwise, if an emergency occurs, you will have to destroy the fruits of your labor, and then spend time and money on restoration.

It is necessary to properly fasten the structure so that it serves you long years. You can embed it from below or glue it from above. Be sure to also seal the gap thoroughly.

Beautiful design ideas

  • Natural teak construction. Fits effectively and harmoniously into the interior of the bathroom, creating a pleasant contrast and adding warm shades to the atmosphere of the room.

  • The design made of natural stone evokes a feeling of luxury and speaks of good taste. Natural colors and calm tones add stateliness. This is the only copy in the world, because identical stones do not exist in nature.
  • Plasterboard construction. Perfect solution for a small bathroom. The product fits compactly and neatly into the space of the room, giving it additional functionality.

A beautiful and functional DIY bathroom countertop is an easy task for the diligent and budget-conscious DIYer. The cost of finished products is quite high, so self-production countertops allows you to save quite a significant amount sum of money. To create waterproof furniture, it is important to choose the right material. What to make a countertop in the bathroom under the sink? Let's look at the most popular options.

Drywall

This is a budget-friendly, very easy-to-use finishing material. At the same time, the construction of moisture-resistant plasterboard for the bathroom is functional and fits perfectly into various design options. It is possible to produce products of the most different forms- from a simple rectangle to complex curved shapes.

Important! The only drawback is that drywall remains drywall, and long time it won't be enough. To extend the life of a plasterboard countertop in a DIY bathroom, it is treated with a waterproofing compound and lined with ceramic tiles or mosaics.

Materials, tools

To work you will need:

  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Sealant.
  • Waterproof glue.
  • Primer.
  • Self-tapping screws.

Operating procedure:

  • The first stage of installation is attaching the guide profile to the wall. The installation height is 800 mm. The mounted guide profile is a frame on which the tabletop will be installed.
  • The next stage is cutting out the plasterboard blank to the size of the frame. After this, the workpiece is placed on the frame for marking and cutting out a hole for the sink.
  • Next is fixing the workpiece to the frame with self-tapping screws. It is necessary that the supports on which the tabletop is located can withstand significant weight. To accomplish this, 2 steel triangular braces are made from the profile, ⅔ of the width of the plasterboard blank.
  • The braces are fixed at right angles to each other: one - vertically, and the other - horizontally, along the edge of the cutout.

Important! Sections of steel profiles are attached on top of the braces. It is advisable to sheathe the braces with a material of increased moisture resistance.

  • Ceramic mosaics or tiles are used to cover the countertops.

Important! Tile is a better option because there are fewer seams. A DIY mosaic bathroom countertop is beautiful, but not as practical. You need to take cladding extremely seriously and do it even in hidden areas.

Features of cladding technology:

  1. Before installing the tiles, the surface is covered with two layers of waterproofing compound. Bitumen mastic is well suited for this purpose.
  2. A layer of waterproof gypsum fiber board is laid on top of the mastic, in which a hole is cut for the sink. GVL sheets are installed using tile adhesive.
  3. Laying tiles preceded by marking. At the bottom of the tabletop, slats are attached, which serve as beacons for installing tiles.
  4. After the marking is completed, the structure is primed.
  5. After waiting for the soil to dry completely, apply tile adhesive to the surface with a spatula.
  6. Laying begins from the corner, not forgetting to check the correctness of laying with a building level.
  7. The seams are rubbed with epoxy resin. The composition is applied to the entire surface using a spatula, and then the residue is removed with a damp cloth.

How to make a bathroom countertop with your own hands? Fake diamond

It is suitable for different styles, looks noble and impressive. The advantages of artificial stone include:

  • Water resistance.
  • Strength.
  • Long service life.

Features:

  1. The first stage of installing an artificial stone countertop is installing the wall edges, which serve as support. A special compound is used to fix the sides. It is necessary that all connections are made efficiently, otherwise cracks cannot be avoided.
  2. You can use a cabinet, an old tabletop or a plywood sheet as a base. To form the frame, the plywood sheet is cut into strips 70 mm wide. When using a stone 3 mm thick, use a single sheet.
  3. To attach the stone to the plywood piece, use a 2-component epoxy composition, spreading it over the surface with a spatula. The stone is pressed tightly from the middle to the edges.
  4. The end parts are processed using a milling cutter and lined with pieces of artificial stone. The surface must first be thoroughly cleaned and degreased.

DIY podium under the bathroom sink. Concrete

It turns out that concrete is not only an excellent building material. Decorative designs can also be made from it. The advantages of concrete include:

  • Easy to do it yourself.
  • Strength.
  • Long service life.

Main component concrete mixture— cement M-400. River sand is used as a fine-grained filler. Fillers for large fractions can be:

  • Crumbs of marble or granite.
  • Gravel.

Important! You can create an unusual and unique design by adding broken glass and (or) various dyes to the solution. If you distribute the paint unevenly, you will get a unique pattern.

Features:

  • Basis for concrete countertop a sheet of laminated plywood or chipboard can serve. In this case, it is necessary that the materials are moisture resistant.
  • The contour is marked according to the templates and the side bars are screwed on. The area intended for installing the sink is not poured with concrete.

Important! To make the edge of the concrete product look more beautiful, a plasticine chamfer is made along the edge of the base at an angle of 45 degrees.

  • The resulting frame is poured with concrete, using a vibrating table to evenly distribute the mixture.

Important! Concrete is poured in two stages, approximately 50/50. The second part of the solution is poured after the first has completely hardened.

  • After the concrete has completely hardened, the frame is removed, the finished tabletop is turned over and installed on the bars.
  • The final stage of manufacturing is processing with a grinding machine.

As you can see, making a countertop in the bathroom for a sink and washing machine does not require much skill. Only patience, accuracy and hard work!

The bathroom is a room with intense functional load; in this small room, all sanitary and hygienic procedures are carried out, washing and sometimes drying clothes takes place. Therefore, pragmatism and convenience are the most important factors taken into account when choosing a design.

However, this is a place of solitude and relaxation, so necessary in the crazy pace of life. This means that the interior of the bathroom should not just be comfortable, but aesthetically pleasing and harmonious. A new word in design is the plasterboard countertop in the bathroom, which successfully replaces traditional tulip washbasins or models built inside the cabinet. In this article we will tell you how to make a countertop from MDF, glass, plasterboard or artificial stone.

Types of shells

The bathtub is not the only plumbing fixture that is used in a modernly equipped bathroom. Also, the bathroom must have a sink, a small container used for washing and washing hands.

Important! A bathroom countertop made of plasterboard, glass, MDF or artificial stone is an excellent option for bathroom design. In the interior it looks very stylish and uncluttered, but at the same time it also has practical advantages - the ability to install household appliances under the sink and equip a sufficient number of storage spaces.

Tabletop requirements

A difficult microclimate always forms in the bathroom, which leads to increased wear and tear. finishing materials, damage to furniture, the appearance of mold, mildew, or even unpleasant odor. This occurs due to the high humidity characteristic of this room or direct contact with water. Therefore, a DIY bathroom countertop is made from sustainable and wear-resistant materials. Unlike countertops, which are used as a piece of kitchen furniture, they are subject to the following requirements:

Note! A do-it-yourself bathtub countertop will be practical and durable if you choose a material that will withstand contact with moisture well and be highly resistant to temperature changes and the effects of aggressive household chemicals.

Materials

Many homeowners do not know what to make a countertop under the sink from, so that it not only fits organically into the interior, but serves faithfully for many years. Designers and builders often disagree on this matter, because the former stand for beauty, and the latter for practicality. The material from which a bathroom countertop can be made must withstand temperature changes, exposure to water and steam, and also be combined with finishing and plumbing fixtures. The most popular options are:

Remember that the best material for making a bathroom countertop is artificial stone. However, if you want to make it yourself, the easiest way is to use MDF, as it is an easy-to-work material that has a wide range of colors. The main thing during installation is not to scratch the lamination of the sheet, otherwise water will get under it, causing the product to lose its appearance.

Types and advantages of sink countertops

A do-it-yourself countertop under the sink is an excellent choice for a small-sized bathroom in which it is difficult to comfortably place a bathtub, sink, washing machine, as well as equip storage areas, especially if the room has a non-standard shape. Countertops can be rectangular, corner, asymmetrical or combined, depending on their shape and location inside the bathroom. The advantages of this sink installation option are:

Interestingly, experienced designers believe that the countertop is best built into rooms with complex geometry, non-standard sizes, and atypical shapes. This design option allows you to most effectively use various niches that are inconvenient for installing furniture and equipment of standard sizes.

Video instruction

A bathroom countertop, made independently, can transform this room for taking water treatments into an elegant room that will amaze everyone with its elegance.

Nowadays, special attention is paid to bathroom design. IN last years specialists have created a huge number of design options in the most unusual styles. If earlier we looked at the bathroom exclusively from a practical point of view - we could wash and bathe in it, now everything has changed. Everyone wants this room to be truly cozy and beautiful.

Plasterboard table top

If you are planning to give your bathroom an unusual look and at the same time spend a minimum financial resources, we recommend making your own functional and visually attractive countertop under the sink from plasterboard sheets. Such work will take you a little time, and even a very picky person will like the result.

To make a countertop under the sink with your own hands from the specified material, you will need to stock up on facing mosaics or, an electric jigsaw, plywood sheets and plasterboard itself (regular, or even better, moisture-resistant), metal profiles for mounting the skeleton of the structure, epoxy glue, putty. All these devices and materials can be easily purchased at a construction showroom.

The countertop for the bathroom sink is made according to a pre-created design. Measure everything required dimensions, choose the optimal shape of the structure you plan to make, calculate the amount of materials required, and then start working on creating an elegant structure with your own hands.

Draw the outline of the sink on the future countertop and make a basic template based on it. Using this pattern, cut out one shape from plywood and another (similar) from plasterboard. The last one requires cutting out a section of the surface for the washbasin.

Now you need:

  1. Attach two metal brackets to the wall.
  2. Mount the plywood form prepared earlier to the installed fasteners.
  3. Attach a plasterboard product with a finished cutout for the sink to the plywood form.
  4. At the bottom of the structure, install a sheet of drywall of the required dimensions (there should be no cutouts in it).

Worktop with built-in washbasin

The next step is making the concave end. It is made with your own hands, again from plasterboard. Take a strip of this material and make small cuts along its entire length (the distance between them is approximately 1 cm). Now it will be easy for you to bend plasterboard sheet.

The part made in this way should be attached to the inner end of the tabletop (use either screws). Be sure to treat the mounted element with moisture-proof putty. It is advisable to prime the end before applying it. A simple bathroom countertop is ready! You spent a minimum of effort and got a very convenient and functional design.

If you want to have a multifunctional plasterboard cabinet with a built-in washbasin at your disposal, you should take care to create a reliable frame for such a design. It is made from metal profiles, providing the entire structure with high stability.

You need to buy lightweight metal profiles marked 27x27 (for installation around the perimeter of the future tabletop) and 67x27 (this product will be adjacent to the previous one). If desired, you can work with profiles that have other parameters. The cladding of the frame can also be made from simple wooden slats. But do not forget about the need to apply to their surface special compounds, protecting wood from moisture, steam and high temperature. The plasterboard frame must be adjacent to the walls of the bathroom. It is secured to the floor with dowel nails.

Plasterboard table top

The tabletop itself in this case can be made of MDF. You definitely need to decide in advance on the height of the structure. It must be such that it is convenient for you to use the sink.

In addition, you should consider what material you plan to use to decorate your homemade bathroom cabinet. In situations where the countertop is covered with ceramic tiles, you need to choose optimal height designs - so that there is no need to cut tile products. This will greatly simplify doing the work yourself.

The installation diagram for a plasterboard cabinet with a countertop is as follows:

  1. Install the guide metal profile on the wall.
  2. You form the contours of the structure from metal products, and immediately prepare plasterboard sheets to fit the dimensions of the frame you have made.
  3. Cut out the shape for the washbasin (as described above).
  4. Place profiles (load-bearing) along the edges of the cutout under the sink. They are needed to provide fixation points for capital lower supports and high strength of the structure.
  5. Supports are mounted below, and they are connected to the drywall with self-tapping screws.
  6. Making the bottom trim. The first thing that is attached and attached to the metal frame is bottom sheet material.
  7. Attach guides to the lower metal profile and to the wall. To make a full-fledged support brace, you need to close the edges of the triangles. To do this, simply mount another guide.
  8. The two triangles that are obtained after all the steps described must be sheathed with gypsum fiber or plasterboard (moisture-resistant).

At the last stage of work, it is necessary to install several more metal profiles. They are placed with shelves down over the corners that secure the braces. Then screw on the top sheet of plasterboard, finish the ends of the cabinet, install the sink (be sure to secure it with sealant) and enjoy the design you made for your bathroom with your own hands. If desired, you can hang the doors on the installed structure. Make them from MDF sheets and mount them on the structure using small hinges.

The lining of a home-made bathroom cabinet is done different materials. Most often, mosaic tiles are used for these purposes.

Mosaic countertop

Execution diagram finishing works like this:

  1. Coat the doors of the building and the countertop itself from the inside with moisture-resistant special adhesive for tiles.
  2. Remove the protective paper layer from the mosaic products (it should be soaked briefly in plain water) and press them against the parts of the cabinet to be treated.
  3. The joints between the tiles are rubbed with a special compound intended for these purposes, using a squeegee - a special rubber device.

Instead of mosaic tiles can be used to finish the tabletop plastic panels, which are not afraid of moisture, ceramic tile products, as well as any other material you like. Only one thing is important. The cladding products used must be practical and not destroyed upon contact with water.

It looks much more interesting than standing alone, without any decoration.

And it’s more convenient to use - cosmetic accessories or a razor can be placed nearby, rather than held in your hands.

Many users will be interested in a homemade countertop in a bathroom made of tiles - this will be discussed in detail below.

The following arguments speak in favor of a homemade countertop with ceramic cladding:

  1. affordable price. Branded granite and marble countertops, especially those made to order according to consumer sketches, are much more expensive;
  2. diversity. There are countless types of tiles on sale with different textures, colors, patterns and surface types. This allows the home designer to create an exclusive product that fits perfectly with;
  3. excellent characteristics. Ceramic tiles are moisture-resistant, durable, stable to temperature changes, and are easy to keep clean. The best characteristics has: due to the absence of pores, it is close to natural stone in terms of strength, wear resistance and water resistance.

Tools and materials

To make a countertop you will need the following:

  • drill with impact mechanism;
  • jigsaw;
  • for shaped cutting (you can order tile cutting in the workshop);
  • levels: rack and bubble;
  • roulette;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • brush;
  • spatulas for laying tiles: metal (solid and serrated), rubber.

The following materials are used:

  • galvanized profiles for: guide and rack;
  • for supports: profiled pipe or brick;
  • moisture-resistant plywood (FSF);
  • moisture-resistant plasterboard (GKVL) or cement-bonded particle boards;
  • tiled or porcelain tiles;

You will also need a fungicidal agent (with an antifungal additive).

Tile sizes

In ceramic cladding, the seams are a weak point, so it is advisable to use tiles that are as large as possible. But in a small room, large modules look bulky and emphasize cramped spaces.

  • in a spacious bathroom: from 30x30 cm to 60x60 cm or (5x5 cm or less);
  • in compact: from 10x10 cm to 20x20 cm.

Frame preparation

The tabletop frame is formed as follows:

  1. markings are applied: on the wall 80 cm from the floor, draw a strictly horizontal line with a marker, having previously marked the extreme points using a bubble level; a rectangle is drawn on the floor, repeating the outline of the tabletop. A sign of the absence of distortions is the equality of the diagonals of the drawn figure;
  2. mark the position of the brick supports and remove them in these places floor tiles, having previously cut it along the contour with a grinder. The tool is equipped with a metal disk for dry cutting of stone (segmented);
  3. build walls from bricks to the level of the line drawn on the wall, fixing them cement-sand mortar. Such supports are good because they allow you to install shelves and doors;
  4. The brick supports are plastered and a day later they are covered with tiles. It is important to do the finishing at this stage, since after installing the countertop it will be more difficult to implement;
  5. they make a frame from CD profiles for plasterboard structures. To make the frame stronger, each element is made of two profiles, inserting one into the other (they have a U-shaped section). The result is a prefabricated profile with a box-shaped section. Metal elements are fastened together with blind rivets or metal screws;
  6. Several cross members from the same profile are fixed in the frame to add rigidity;
  7. lay the frame on supports and screw one side to the wall using dowels.

In addition to stone supports, they use:

  • racks made of profiled pipe with section dimensions 50x30, 40x40, 60x40 mm or purchased chrome;
  • welded brackets from the corner, transferring the load from the tabletop to the wall (suspended version).

All metal parts are painted.

Sheathing

The base of the tabletop is attached to the frame, manufactured as follows:
  1. From a sheet of moisture-resistant plywood of the FSF brand with a thickness of 19 mm, cut out two identical blanks and glue them together, laying them on top of each other. If the design of the tabletop involves curved outlines, cutting is done with a jigsaw;
  2. lay the plywood base on the frame and screw it to it with metal screws;
  3. glue onto the plywood on top and at the ends a material that is close in thermal expansion coefficient to ceramic tiles. For plywood, this indicator is very different, so you cannot glue tiles directly onto it.

The following materials are used:

  • cement particle board (CSB) with a thickness of 6 – 13 mm;
  • moisture-resistant plasterboard sheet (GKLV).

With DSP it generates a lot of dust. It's better to do construction knife cuts and then break the slab on the corner of the table. If necessary, the ends are ground. The DSP is screwed to the plywood with self-tapping screws, having previously countersunk the holes so that the caps are flush.

WITH gypsum board sheet perform the following manipulations:

  • glue it to the plywood and additionally fix it with self-tapping screws;
  • apply two layers of nitro varnish diluted with nitro solvent on top and on the ends;
  • fill the joints silicone sealant“For an aquarium” (excess is immediately removed);
  • seal the joints with sickle tape;
  • apply 2-component automotive putty (the cheapest one will do) with a thickness of 1-2 mm on top and on the ends with a medium-width spatula;
  • After waiting for the putty to harden (it takes about an hour), sand it with coarse sandpaper, wrapping it around the block.

Next, an opening for the sink is cut out at the base using a jigsaw. In the case of using gypsum plasterboard, this is done before applying a protective coating of nitro varnish. Modern sinks are equipped with a template - the opening is cut out from it.

In the absence of a template, you will have to make it yourself. To thread the jigsaw blade, drill a small hole on the contour of the opening with a drill.

Due to the high drying speed, automotive putty should be prepared in small portions.

Tiling

Tiles for countertops are selected according to the following criteria:

  1. type. The surface of the tabletop is not subjected to significant loads, therefore it is sufficient wall tiles(there is an icon with a hand on the package);
  2. surface. Relief tiles look interesting, but they are difficult to keep clean: dirt is firmly held in uneven areas;
  3. color. All shades of blue, reminiscent of the sea, are always appropriate in the bathroom: azure, turquoise, sea green. You can add white or make the tabletop red and black.

do it like this:

  1. treat the surface of the base of the tabletop with a latex-based primer - it will increase the adhesive strength of the glue. Work continues after the primer has dried, which takes a day;
  2. The glue is applied with a spatula with a straight blade. For leveling, notched spatulas are used, which have different tooth heights; this determines the thickness of the adhesive layer. Typically, tile adhesive manufacturers indicate on the packaging which spatula to use to apply the mixture when gluing tiles of different sizes;
  3. lay the tiles on the layer of glue, using a slatted level to mark the horizontal position. The method of gluing the mosaic depends on the type of flexible base: the synthetic mesh should be on the bottom, the paper mesh on top. After the glue has hardened, the paper is soaked and removed;
  4. Apply glue again and glue the next module, inserting plastic crosses into the seam between it and the previous one. Cross stitches ensure that all seams are of equal width. When gluing mosaics, select crosses with a width equal to the width of the seams between the chips. The glue that comes out of the seams is wiped off with a rag;
  5. continue to glue the tiles, leveling the modules relative to each other;
  6. tiles adjacent to the sink for curved cutting. Tiles for gluing the ends can be cut with a regular tile cutter, a diamond glass cutter (if the thickness is small) or a grinder.

The ends can be decorated using a special part -. The glue used is waterproof. Better - cement glue diluted instead of water on latex.

It is not advisable to use expensive and difficult-to-work epoxy adhesive, which is characterized by the highest water resistance, in this case, since the countertop is not constantly exposed to direct water.

If the product is intended to be pasted over glass mosaic, white glue is required.

Grouting joints

The grout is also moisture resistant. Cement-based latex is also preferable; there is no point in buying expensive epoxy. An exception is if silver or gold powder is supposed to be added to the epoxy grout, as is done in expensive interiors.

one day after gluing the tiles:

  1. Remove glue residues from the seams using a special scraper coated with tungsten or diamond. In its absence, a construction knife is used;
  2. moisten the seams with a spray bottle or a damp sponge;
  3. apply grout to rubber spatula and rub it into the seams, trying to fill them as much as possible. It is useful to press the mixture with the blade of a spatula and then go over the seam again, filling the resulting void;
  4. in 15 – 20 minutes. After starting work, return to the first area and wipe off traces of grout from the tiles with a rag or damp sponge. This moment is the most suitable, since the mixture has not yet dried and can be removed, but at the same time it has already hardened somewhat and therefore is not squeezed out of the seam with careless movement.

Contact of grout with water is allowed no earlier than after two days.

You should add an antifungal additive to the grout or buy a ready-made fungicidal composition.
