  7. Glue the sheet with polyurethane foam, pressing it well to the base of the wall.

Some types of materials (plaster, chipboard, MDF and drywall without decorative coating) require painting to harmonious combination with indoor interior.

For these purposes the following are used:

  • Acrylic paints. They are convenient to add to the composition for plastering the surface. This simultaneously reduces the number of finishing steps, since surface leveling and painting occur simultaneously, and makes damage less noticeable, since the entire layer of plaster is painted over;
  • Water-based. Such paints can be added to the plaster or painted on the wall over the leveling layer. When using acrylic and water-based paints, it is important to remember that they must be primed on top, otherwise the surface will get dirty. You can dilute the primer yourself using PVA and water in a ratio of 1:5;
  • Latex based paints can also be used in two ways, but their advantage is that a final primer is not needed. Latex compounds are not hydrophobic and are easy to clean;
  • Alkyd and oil. These compounds are indispensable in conditions of high humidity. They are more wear-resistant and dense, but they are more difficult to work with due to their thick consistency and toxic odor.




How to insulate?

Thermal insulation and sound insulation are the functions of the front door, which partly depend on the type of finishing of the slopes. To insulate a room, you don’t have to run to the store to buy a heater. First you need to take care of maximum tightness, and you should start with the front door. This will not only increase the level of comfort in your home, but will also help you save money on utility bills in the future.


Insulation of slopes from the inside is carried out step by step:

  • Selection of materials. The leading positions are occupied by sandwich panels, plasterboard, polystyrene foam, mineral wool, polystyrene.   • Fastening the insulation. Ideally, polystyrene or mineral boards should be covered with plastic mesh for interior finishing work. This will protect against cracks and unevenness in the future. The glue is applied to the mesh in layers, each layer dries to hardness in 6-12 hours.


  • Leveling the surface. Here again you will need putty. You can level the surface with up to 2-3 layers. Then you need to let it dry for the time indicated in the instructions on the container, and treat it with fine-grained sandpaper. The grain number on the sandpaper package is at least 100.


  • Final finishing. Includes the application of a colorless primer followed by painting or any other method of decoration.


It is important to consider that finishing materials have not only their own characteristics that affect thermal insulation, but also their weight. The main thing is to decide how to fasten the slopes of the front door with your own hands.

Sealing the entire slope with mortar is the most acceptable option in terms of protection and sound insulation. Moreover, the result is a slope that does not bend and has no voids. However, this option is somewhat cramped in terms of design. As an option, you can decorate the slope using textured plaster and painting.

If, in addition to filling with mortar, you also install various finishing materials, you can achieve absolutely any appearance. So this option, when fully executed, combines the advantages of the first method and has no actual disadvantages.

Plastic slopes

Installation of slopes made of plastic, as well as plastic lining, is carried out in almost the same way as laminate. Since this material is less durable than laminate, it needs to be fixed more often.   • The slopes treated with putty are left to dry. The time of this process depends on the thickness of the layer and the composition of the putty.
  • After this layer has dried, you need to check the quality of the surface, remove possible minor defects - chip or clean any incoming irregularities. Then the slopes need to be removed with finishing putty until they are perfectly even.

  • Then the slope walls are finished with parts cut from gypsum plasterboard.   • To achieve an ideal surface, apply a thin (no more than 1 mm) layer of finishing putty. It will completely hide all the irregularities, joints and dowel holes.
  • After the putty layer has completely hardened and, if necessary, sanded with fine-grained sandpaper, you can begin decorating the slopes. They can be painted, pasted over or covered with decorative plaster.

Drywall is also fastened differently if it is necessary to level the surface, covering a significant thickness from the wall.

Combined fastening of plasterboard parts - with glue and with guides

  • To do this, bars of the required cross-section or metal profiles, corners or U-shapes are fixed to the surface of the slope, thus creating a sheathing that will help level the wall, giving it the required direction. This method of fastening has the advantage that insulation material can be additionally laid between the guides fixed to the wall.
  • This entire structure is then covered with plasterboard, which is screwed to the bars with self-tapping screws. Next, the process proceeds in the same way as in the first option.

Finishing slopes with panels or lining

For finishing slopes with materials that are produced in the form of rigid panels - fiberboard, various types of lining, MDF and others, using a similar technology for attaching them to the wall.   • You can also install the lathing as shown in the picture - this option is used to secure the lining parallel to the door.
  • After installing the sheathing, it is recommended to lay insulation material between the bars - this can be mineral wool, polystyrene foam or one of the other modern insulation materials.
  • Next, the selected facing material is installed along the sheathing. Solid, even panels are installed end-to-end with each other, while the lining is connected with a tongue-and-groove fastening.

  • Plastic and laminated lining is fixed to the bars from the groove part of the lock using special metal holders, which with their protrusion fit onto the bottom flange of the groove and are attached to the guide with small nails or self-tapping screws.

  • Large panels are screwed to the sheathing with self-tapping screws, the heads of which must be “recessed” 1.5–2 mm into the thickness of the material. These holes are later sealed using wood putty with the addition of a dye of the appropriate shade.
  • Having finished installing the panels, the appearance of the slopes must be improved with corners matched to the color of the cladding. Corners are glued on external vertical and horizontal corners and at the junction of the door frame and finishing material.
