Overlap of corrugated sheets on the roof of an industrial building. Detailed installation of a roof made of corrugated sheets and installation of a roof covering with your own hands according to a lightweight scheme

Calculate the horizontal overlap of corrugated sheets (overlap) when known coal there is no need to tilt the slope. It depends on the slope and is well known to builders. The depth of the vertical overlap depends not only on the angle of inclination, but also on the grade of corrugated sheeting, and can be 1 or 2 corrugations.

There are 3 main factors influencing the choice of roof slope: wind, snow load and the desire to have a steep and beautiful roof, but if possible cheaper.

Wind and snow loads depend on the area where the house is supposed to be built. The third factor operates the same in any area. Let's start with it.

Increasing the roof area due to its slope

Since the choice of material has been resolved, there is no need to compare its cost with other types of coating. We will only show how the coverage area and, therefore, the required number of profiled sheets changes depending on the angle of the roof. This is easy to do using a simple gable roof structure as an example.

To compare areas, let’s focus on 3 angles, at which the amount of overlap is usually indicated (see table No. 1)

Table No. 1. How the horizontal overlap of the corrugated sheet depends on the angle of inclination.

Notes:

1. The increase in area in line 3 is indicated in comparison with a horizontal roof.
2. The value indicated in line 3 is valid for gable roof provided that the length of the sheet covers the entire distance from the ridge to the roof overhang.

The standard length of a profiled sheet is 2-2.5 m. By special order, you can purchase corrugated sheeting with a sheet length from 0.5 to 12 m. A standard sheet will not provide coverage of the slope from the ridge to the overhang. Therefore, when calculating the required amount standard sheets corrugated sheeting, it is necessary to take into account the depth of the overlap.

Additional elements required for corrugated sheeting

To make it clear how complex the roof structure is, in Fig. 1 shows the elements that are needed for a roof made of corrugated sheets.

  1. Horse. Closes the space formed at the junction of the corrugated board in the upper part. The ridge strip also covers the outer corners at the intersection of the slopes. To close joints located at an angle to the horizontal, there are separate elements called a ridge. It is also necessary to provide an end cap for the ridge.
  2. The valley, or valley, together with special strips cover the internal corners at the intersection of the slopes (the ridge is turned inside out).
  3. The edges of the covering protruding above the wall are covered with cornice and front overhangs. To protect speakers wooden elements roofs (lathing, front board, etc.) and water drainage use a cornice strip. The sides of the slopes are protected with special strips, which are called butts.
  4. The ends of the roofs are protected from gusts of wind by end strips; different kinds abutment strips will be required at points where elements connect, for example with ventilation pipes.

Standard length additional elements is equal to 2 m. To determine required quantity elements must first be calculated total length areas they overlap and take into account the overlap. For covering external corners it is 10-20 cm, for a valley - 30 cm. It is advisable to calculate at least approximately the amount of fasteners. For 1 m2 of roofing there are approximately 6-7 galvanized self-tapping screws with special rubber gaskets to protect against moisture penetration.

The influence of snow on the overlap of corrugated sheets

The sheathing for corrugated sheeting is made of wood or metal.

Wind and snow loads, together with the dead weight of the entire structure, determine the required strength characteristics of the roof's strength elements (rafters, sheathing, mauerlat, etc.). The angle of inclination of the structure also affects these characteristics. However, to determine the overlap of corrugated sheets, not only strength indicators are important.

Regarding snow cover, there is a misconception: the steeper the slope, the less snow will linger on the roof. This is true. But why then are devices specially installed on the roof to retain snow?

It turns out that the snow cover of the roof helps retain heat in the house, and prevents its movement along a steep roof made of corrugated sheets not only to protect passers-by, but also to ensure that when moving along the slope it does not disturb anti-corrosion coating profiled sheet.

Consequently, remaining on the roof until the spring thaw, the influence of snow cover on the size of the overlap will begin to affect itself as the snow melts.

Melting process in early spring looks like that. At first, the water flows freely along the leaf. In the evening, as the temperature drops, it freezes, forming a small ice barrier. The next day, this barrier may increase, etc. Above such an obstacle during the day, water accumulates, which, due to an insufficiently deep overlap, can penetrate into the attic. It is clear that the greater the slope, the greater the height of the ice.

For full guarantee from water penetration, a special heating system is created on the roof and in gutters. Such heating is sometimes turned on not only in early spring, but also in winter time, If outside temperature less than -10°C. It all depends on the insulation of the roof. If it is “cold”, that is, it is well insulated, and internal heat the house does not contribute to the melting of snow, then the heating is not turned on. If it is “warm” and snow melting is possible in winter, then heating is necessary.

You can build a durable, high-quality roof from corrugated sheets quite easily yourself. It is only important to know what a corrugated sheet roofing system is, as well as how to attach these sheets to the sheathing, and how to protect the internal under-roof space from moisture. Particular attention should also be paid to additional elements, which must be used in full compliance with technology.

Preparation of material

After you have completed all exact calculations roofs, you can already order profiled sheets. If you have already purchased the sheets, however, their installation must be postponed for some reason, for example, because of rain, then the sheets must be stored, without removing the original packaging from them, in a closed room for flat surface. Additionally, it is recommended to place beams under the sheets at a distance of 50 cm.

This covering material must be moved and rearranged quite carefully, holding it by the edges along its length and especially avoiding deflections and creases of the sheets. Corrugated sheeting must be moved carefully, since modern polymer coating is considered particularly sensitive to mechanical damage . It is necessary to cut the material abrasive cutting tools: fragments from the circle can severely scratch your hands, and significant heating is observed in the cut areas. If this is still necessary, then all damage must be immediately covered with repair paint.

Fortunately, the technology for constructing a roof made of corrugated sheets currently allows all installation work to be carried out in the warm season, from April to October, then the material will not have to be stored for a long time.

Step-by-step installation master classes

This will surprise some, but the same, at first glance, material must be laid in different ways. It's all about the manufacturers, because each manufacturer gives their own recommendations for installation, they are really important. Profile sheets from different companies are demanding in terms of their conditions, even if these differences are small. Therefore, you must carefully study the instructions supplied with the roofing material, and also not completely trust hired workers, who want to do everything their own way and “the dog is eaten on such roofs”.

Thin metal profile

If for installation of the roof you select a profile whose thickness is less than 0.7 mm, then during its installation you cannot move directly on it, as this will lead to damage. Therefore, you will have to lay wooden scaffolding on which you will need to walk.

Step-by-step instruction:

Roofing with corrugated sheets

When working with such material, you no longer need to use a wooden substrate..

Master class on installation of metal profile roofing:

The main indicator high-quality installation roofing is its tightness. Roofing material serves precisely this purpose, to protect everything. internal structures from moisture and cold. Even a small gap can become a serious problem in the future, allowing dampness and leaks to pass through, which can lead to to the formation of fungus and material damage.

Wind protection and waterproofing

Currently, the market can offer a large selection of a wide variety of materials, which will differ in types and properties.

Wind protection and waterproofing involves the following actions:

Step-by-step installation of waterproofing under corrugated sheeting:

Laying order of sheets

Most roofers install corrugated sheets in the following way: start from the bottom row, lay four sheets first, and each of them is fixed with only one screw located in the center. After this, the sheets are connected to each other with 4.8 × 19 mm self-tapping screws, which should be installed in increments of 50 cm. After this, you need to check how much metal sheets turned out to be aligned with the roof overhang, and then finally fix the roofing material.

If you are installing a roof for the first time, in order to avoid distortion, the profiled sheets must be attached in the following order:

The corrugated sheeting must be mounted to the base of the roof so that the edge offset is 4 cm from the eaves. This must be done in order to leave a gap in the skates. optimal size, and so that roof ventilation is not disturbed.

High-quality screws

The consumption of self-tapping screws during installation of a corrugated roof is usually about 6 pieces per one square meter. For such installation, dimensions 4.8 × 28−35 mm are suitable. These screws can be used for both wood and metal. From manufacturers roofing materials You can also purchase screwdrivers with a special attachment as a tool. You can also use a cordless electric drill.

Special screws for roofing with your own hands are indispensable, since this is the only way to ensure:

  • High connection strength.
  • Complete waterproof material.
  • There is minimal risk of mechanical injury to the coating during fastening, which means that this will indicate the absence of corrosion in the future.

The most reliable high-quality self-tapping screws can be purchased from the same suppliers who sell corrugated sheets. It is recommended to choose screws made from stainless steel or carbon steel with a zinc coating. When purchasing these items, you still need to carefully inspect all sealing washers.

Correct fastening

You can tell whether you have fastened the screw correctly or not by looking at the metal washer - it should have a rubber gasket protruding by about 1 mm.

It is necessary to screw the screws into the corrugated sheet strictly perpendicularly, directly into the deflection of the vertical waves. Although many builders debate this issue, each method has its own advantages. For example, a self-tapping screw in the lower wave creates the most reliable fastening, and in the upper wave rainwater has less chance of penetration under the roof space.

But manufacturers recommend fixing the corrugated sheet exactly in the deflection. On the ridge and eaves you need to screw screws into the sag through the wave, and in the center of the sheet they need to be screwed into each sheathing board. In total, each square meter requires approximately 5 to 8 screws.

Required Tools

It is worth noting that the installation of corrugated sheeting on the roof is truly accessible even to a person with little experience in construction. Of course, there are roofing materials that only experienced professionals can install correctly. But if we consider the case of modern corrugated sheeting, then everyone can cope with the installation on their own.

Thanks to the long length of the corrugated sheeting, the roof slopes overlap without any additional transverse joints, and this material can be easily adjusted and cut. The following tools will be needed for installation:

The profile can be laid on slopes of almost any angle of inclination, in this case it is only necessary to correctly calculate the amount of transverse overlap:

  • 100−150 - mm at large angles.
  • 200 mm - for a slope of 14 degrees.
  • 150−200 - mm for roofs with 15−30 degrees.

To attach the corrugated sheeting, you will need self-tapping screws with special sealing washers.

Safety precautions

The metal roofing technology itself is not so complicated. It is important here not to damage the roofing during installation work. At first glance, this material looks quite durable and tough, but you still need to be careful when working with it:

Caring for such a roof will be very simple: rain itself washes away all the dirt from the surface, and you only need to clean it once a year drainage systems and grooves from clogged fallen leaves.

In order for the roof of the building to be airtight and not allow moisture or excess air to pass through (especially during large gusts of wind), the roofing material must be laid correctly and all rules must be followed. In particular, you should adhere to the rules for joining profiled sheets. So, the sheets on the roof must be joined with an overlap where they are connected. In addition, you should know that the overlap of corrugated sheets always occurs between the rows at the bottom and at the top, and the sheets are also connected in one row.

Correct overlaps of corrugated sheets

Corrugated sheets are increasingly used in construction work, while this material is slowly displacing other roofing materials from the market. This can be explained quite simply. Roofs made of corrugated sheets are strong and durable. They do not require special care and are not subjected to negative impact conditions and factors from outside. With all this, corrugated sheeting is distinguished by its relatively low cost and ease of installation, which makes it so popular among private developers.

But even though corrugated sheeting is very easy to install, there are some nuances that should be followed. So, when buying corrugated sheeting, be sure to ask him to include instructions with it; it may contain advice on how to select auxiliary materials, such as self-tapping screws.

Also, choosing the material. Pay attention to its length. It is desirable that it completely covers the roof from the ridge to the eaves and also has a small margin of 50 mm for the overhang. This will avoid transverse joints during installation.

We equip the roof with corrugated sheets

So, in order to equip a roof with corrugated sheets, you should take care of its main components such as waterproofing and ventilation.

  1. We arrange waterproofing. Corrugated sheeting is wonderful protective agent which prevents moisture from penetrating into the space under the roof. However, water can still leak under the material. If the house is residential, then moisture condensation constantly occurs inside. Therefore, the installation of a waterproofing layer is an indispensable condition that must be observed when installing a roof made of profiled sheets. It is laid horizontally from the bottom of the roof with the strips overlapping by 10-15 centimeters. In order for the waterproofing to be airtight, it is taped with adhesive tape along the joints.
  2. We do ventilation. So, the moisture in any case sinks a little under the roofing material. Accordingly, it should be able to freely evaporate from there. For this purpose, it is established ventilation systems. The easiest way in this regard is to install waterproofing of the rafters - a beam 40-50 mm in height, which guarantees the presence of a gap between the insulation and the sheathing.

Remember! Any part of the roof made of wood must be treated with special antiseptic agents that prevent rotting, fungal infection, and so on.

Installation of corrugated sheets

Scheme of roof arrangement under corrugated sheeting

Profiled sheets are such a versatile material that they can be used to install any roof, the main thing is that the optimal distance between the rafters is maintained - from 60 to 90 centimeters. If you do not fall into this measure, do not despair, laying corrugated sheeting is also possible, but first you should strengthen the roof with thicker sheathing boards. If the entire length of the slope is covered with strips of material, then during installation there will be no difficulties at all; in this case, fastening occurs in the next order. Provided that the slope is longer than the length of the sheets of material, they begin to install the corrugated sheets at the bottom of the roof and thus gradually move upward.

The most important thing during installation is to ensure that the corrugated sheeting is fastened correctly. The sheets can be fastened with special roofing rivets, but they need to be attached to the roof only with special roofing screws. In this case, before installation, holes for self-tapping screws are made in the profiled sheets. By the way, you can choose a self-tapping screw, the color of the head of which will completely blend with the material and the fasteners simply will not be visible on it.

It is forbidden to install corrugated sheets using nails. The fact is that nails, as fasteners, are not able to withstand large wind gusts, so corrugated sheeting can easily be torn off the roof, which means the roof will be damaged. When installing screws or self-tapping screws, it is important to screw in these fasteners evenly so that there is no tilting.

The sheets are attached to the sheathing where the waves lie (along the depressions). Per square meter of material, as a rule, 6 to 8 screws are attached at the same distance from each other. The sheets are fastened to the first and last lathing along each wave, because it is in these areas that the greatest influence of the wind is felt. The corrugated sheeting is attached to the intermediate laths through a wave. Along longitudinal joints, the distance between screws should not be more than 50 centimeters.

Sheet fastening scheme

How to lay sheets

Profiled sheets are usually laid according to two main patterns:

  • Vertical. The use of this method is justified if there are drainage grooves on the corrugated sheet. First, the first sheet of the first row is laid and temporarily secured. Next, lay the first sheet of the second row. Then - the second sheet of the first row, the second - of the second. And so on. Next, the resulting four-sheet block is leveled and finally secured. Next, the following blocks of sheets are also attached.
  • Blocks of three sheets. If the profiled sheets do not have a groove for drainage, they are laid in this way. First, two sheets are placed in the first row, a sheet from the second row is attached to them, the block is aligned with the cornice and finally secured.

We equip end and ridge strips

By general recommendation end strips are usually laid from the overhangs to the ridges. This is done so that if the need arises, such a strip can be easily dismantled and cut off. If the strip length needs to be increased, its overlap is from 5 to 10 centimeters. Moreover, the plank is attached not only to the end sheathing board, but also to the corrugated sheet, and the step is no more than a meter. Covering with an end strip along a profiled sheet should occur at least for a wave.

Corrugated roof inclination table

It is better to use ridge strips to make smooth ridge elements. Their overlap is at least 10 centimeters, and the fastening step is up to 30 centimeters. A layer of sealant should be laid between the ridge elements and the corrugated sheet.

Calculating overlaps

During roof installation, it should be taken into account that there is a certain overlap of the profiled sheet on the roof. A special overlap length protects the roof from leaks. The overlaps, just like the lathing structure, directly depend on the angles of the roof slopes.

At an angle of up to 15°, the overlap should be no less than 20 centimeters (but no less than two waves)

At an inclined angle of 15° - 30°, the corrugated sheeting is laid with an overlap of 15-20 centimeters.

If the angle exceeds 30°, with an overlap of up to 10-15 centimeters, the roof will be completely airtight and durable.

Valley installation diagram

There is also a mounting option with a horizontal overlap. In this case, it should not be less than 20 centimeters. However, after installation, such overlaps should be sealed with silicone sealant or bitumen mastic - they simply cover the seams.

Joining of corrugated sheets on valleys

You already understand that there is nothing complicated about joining corrugated sheets. However, you will have to tinker with the material and its installation on the roof, where there are internal surface joints, they are called valleys. When arranging valleys, under the edges of the corrugated sheet, which are adjacent to the joining line on both sides, place a bent inner side metal sheet or special valley design.

When the edges of the corrugated sheeting are secured, a valley overlay is mounted on the joints. So, where the flashing meets the roof covering, the joints are sealed. In some cases, sealing can be carried out in places of vertical or horizontal overlaps.

The profile sheet belongs to the category of the most practical and functional roofing materials. Thanks to the diversity color solutions, shapes, configurations, wave pitch, fin height, the buyer always has plenty to choose from. As roofing covering mainly use galvanized profiled steel sheets with polymer coating. The peculiarity of this material is that it has additional lateral rigidity due to profiles of different heights and geometric shapes.

Another special advantage is their low weight, which simplifies installation and allows them to be laid on a lightweight rafter system. These nuances are positive from the point of view that they allow significant savings on the construction of the roofing pie.

But the installation of corrugated sheeting also has its own subtleties, which every craftsman who lays this material on the roof should know about. For example, it is especially necessary to take into account the slope of the roof and correctly overlap the corrugated sheets.

Main rules for laying profiled sheets

With the advent of lightweight corrugated sheeting, there was no longer a need to further strengthen the rafter system, as well as the sheathing structure itself. The material is fastened to the roof using special roofing screws. The size of the sheathing will depend on the height of the corrugated sheeting, as well as the slope of the roof. How does the slope of the roof affect the overlap of corrugated sheets?

>If the slope is less than 14°, the sheets overlap in the horizontal direction by no less than 200 mm. If the PK20 brand is used, then the sheathing is carried out completely, and the corrugated sheet overlaps in 2 waves

>When the roof slope is from 15° to 30°, the sheets overlap by 150 or 200 mm. The sheathing pitch in this case should be in the range from 350 to 500 mm.

>If the slope is over 30°, it is allowed for the sheets to overlap by 100 or 150 mm.

>For roof slopes up to 12°, all seams are sealed using silicone sealant.

Some installation rules

There are certain rules for installing roofing coverings that help to equip the roof with high quality and for a long time. Particular attention should be paid to lining, ventilation and overlap.

If the ventilation is quite normal, then there is no need to lay a lining under the roofing slabs. In other cases, it is better to take care to lay it down after all. A superdiffusion membrane is used for this. It will not only prevent the accumulation, but also the penetration of moisture into the top layer, which is thermal insulation.

It is necessary to leave a small space between the gasket and the sheathing board. The edges of the lining are folded up and nailed to the end board.

Thermal insulation, vapor barrier, roof ventilation - this is what must be provided without fail. It is necessary to prevent moisture condensation, which negatively affects the roof.

Another important point– this is an overlap of corrugated sheeting, which must be done correctly. As a rule, the side overlap is performed by half the profile wave. For flat roofs it is made wider. Sealing tape and mastic are used for sealing.

If the profiled sheets have a drainage groove, then they are laid with a side overlap so that the grooves of the sheets overlap one another.

In order for the overlap to be correct and durable, not only the skills and abilities of the master builder himself are important, but also high-quality corrugated sheeting and other elements for the roof. The Ilirt company is ready to offer you such products at a reasonable price.

Corrugated sheeting is a durable material that is made from galvanized steel and produced in the form of sheets. Due to its low price, light weight and ease of installation (it is easy to install it yourself), it is often used in modern construction, for example, as a roof covering. However, despite the simplicity of its installation, there are some nuances regulating the installation of corrugated sheeting on the roof.

Firstly, you must remember that when purchasing corrugated sheeting from the seller, you need to ask for installation instructions. Any certified material must have such instructions. Although the process of installing corrugated sheets yourself does not differ from different manufacturers, the instructions may contain tips on selecting auxiliary materials, for example, self-tapping screws. Or have other provisions, following which you will not damage the material during installation.

Secondly, when choosing, you should give preference to one whose length will cover the roof from the ridge to the eaves plus another 40-50 mm for the overhang (that is, its length can be correlated with the rafters). The choice of sheets of this size is determined so that transverse joints do not form during installation. If the distance between the ridge and the eaves is too large and it will not be possible to cover it with one strip, then sheets of corrugated sheets should be purchased in a size that will be convenient to transport and lift onto the roof. Install with an overlap, which is determined by the angle of the roof.

Features of installing a roof under corrugated sheets

  1. Waterproofing. Despite the fact that corrugated sheeting perfectly protects the structure from moisture penetration from the outside, minor leakage of water under the coating is possible due to installation errors or extreme weather conditions. Also, in living areas inside the house, moisture constantly condenses. Therefore, it is imperative to install waterproofing. The insulation is laid horizontally, starting from the bottom edge of the roof. The overlap between the strips should be from 10 to 15 cm; for a tight connection it is glued with adhesive tape. The waterproofing film must be placed correctly: there should be a sag of about 20 cm between the rafters. Waterproofing for non-residential premises can be made from roofing felt, roofing felt or glassine.
  2. Ventilation device. To allow moisture that has penetrated under the corrugated sheeting to evaporate, it is recommended to install ventilation. The simplest option is to install it on the rafters on top of the waterproofing of the rafter strip. This is a beam 40-50 mm high, thanks to which there is a gap between the insulation and the sheathing.

Be sure to treat all wooden parts of the roof with an antiseptic, which will prevent the wood from rotting and prevent the development of fungus and mold. The instructions say that all boards and beams must be processed before direct installation. This simple action will make the roof of your home, built with your own hands, more durable.

Corrugated sheeting installation technology

Corrugated sheeting can be laid on almost any roof; the optimal distance between the rafters for laying it is 600-900 mm.

If your roof does not fall into this gap, then corrugated sheeting can still be installed, following the rules of installation yourself and increasing the strength of the roof due to the thickness of the sheathing boards. If the strips of material cover the entire length of the slope, then their installation does not cause any difficulty; they are simply attached one by one. If the length of the slope is greater than the length of the sheets, then installation begins from the bottom of the roof, gradually moving upward.

The main thing during installation is to correctly fasten the corrugated sheets. The sheets can be fastened together with roofing rivets. To attach sheets to the roof, you need to choose special roofing screws. They do not require pre-drilling holes; they come with heads different colors, which merge with the color of the corrugated board. If you cannot find suitable roofing screws, you can use hex head screws with a rubber or plastic washer. In order to use screws, you must first drill a hole at the attachment point that is 0.3-0.5 mm larger than the diameter of the screw.

Priusing nails is not possible. The technology for such fastening is not provided because, under the influence of wind, the nails cannot hold the sheet and it can easily be torn off the roof. It is important to install both self-tapping screws and screws strictly vertically - this avoids water leakage.

Sheets of corrugated sheets are attached to the sheathing in the places where the waves are adjacent (in the depressions). There are from 6 to 8 fastening elements per 1 m2. Try to keep the distance between them approximately the same. The sheets are attached to the first and last lathing in each wave, since these areas will bear the greatest wind load. Corrugated sheeting can be attached to the intermediate battens through the wave. At longitudinal joints, the distance between fastening elements should not be more than 500 mm.

Methods for laying sheets

There are two most common DIY ones:

  1. Vertical installation. This method is suitable for corrugated sheets with a drainage groove. The first sheet of the first row is laid and temporarily secured. Then the first sheet of the second row is laid. Next is the second sheet of the first row, and then the second sheet of the second row. The result is a block of 4 sheets, which is leveled and attached to the roof. Using the same scheme, the remaining sheets begin to be attached to it.
  2. Block of 3 sheets. This type of installation is more suitable for corrugated sheets that do not have a drainage groove. The first two sheets of the first row are laid, and the first sheet of the second row is attached to them. After aligning the block along the eaves, it is finally attached to the roof.

End and ridge strips

It is recommended to lay the end strip from the overhang to the ridge, where it can be easily cut off if necessary. If you have to increase the length of the plank, then the overlap should be from 5 to 10 cm. It is attached not only to the end board of the sheathing, but also to the corrugated sheets, in increments of no more than 1 m. End strip must cover at least one wave of the profiled sheet.

It is better to use smooth ridge elements as a ridge strip. The overlap between them should be at least 10 cm. They need to be fastened in increments of up to 30 cm. It is recommended to additionally lay a sealant between them and the corrugated sheet. If the sheets have a small wave, then a ridge seal is sufficient, and if the waves are large, trapezoidal, then it is better to choose a ventilated seal.

Self-tapping screws for attaching planks must be chosen of a longer length than for attaching sheets to the sheathing, because in some cases the end and ridge strips have to be attached through the top of the wave. Therefore, the length of the screw must be greater than the thickness of the materials, taking into account the wave height of the profiled sheet.

Overlaps between corrugated sheets

When installing a roof made of corrugated sheets, there are special rules governing the amount of longitudinal overlap between the sheets of covering, which help protect the roof from leaks. Like the sheathing design, the overlap depends on the pitch of the roof.

  1. If the angle is less than 15°, then the overlap must be at least 200 mm. It is correct if the overlap is at least two waves.
  2. If the angle of inclination is from 15 to 30°, then the overlap is chosen to be 150-200 mm, depending on the wave width of the profiled sheet.
  3. If the angle of inclination is more than 30°, then the overlap is made from 100 to 150 mm.

If the installation of a roof with corrugated sheets will be accompanied by the presence of horizontal overlaps, then it is correct to make them at least 20 cm, and then additionally seal them. For these purposes you can use silicone sealant or bitumen mastic, which you just need to cover the seams. The same can be done with vertical overlaps.

Required Tools

  1. Electric drill or screwdriver for attaching corrugated sheets. It is better to choose a tool with a low chuck rotation speed. In this case, it will be easy for you to control the angle of insertion of the self-tapping screw into the roof.
  2. A hacksaw or electric jigsaw, special scissors for cutting corrugated sheets. This material has a polymer protective coating on top, so if you subject it to abrasive cutting, you risk damaging the sheets. The easiest way to do it yourself is to use a hacksaw or jigsaw to make cuts of complex shapes. If you are going to use a grinder to cut sheets, do not use an abrasive disc under any circumstances; take a special attachment for cutting corrugated sheets.
  3. Hammer for installing sheathing.
  4. Wood brush.
